Flats only for me and right now I only use one type - LaBella 1954 flats (BEAD). They sound good on everything but the difference between each bass is more subtle with flats than with rounds or with the brighter brands of flats.

What I like about flats is the earthy, wooden, "Upright" feel and sound. I have a set on my fretless and it sounds amazing (roundwounds on all my other basses). If I had a hollow or semi-hollow body bass, I would probably put flats on it.

I think I like the sound of flats, generally speaking. I think they sound superb on a Jazz, but obviously, on a good P-bass, they sound bloomin' and punchy.

I'm a self admitted flattaholic. Even when I get a bass just to have rounds on it, eventually it winds up with flats on it. That's why I will no longer buy a duplicate bass just to put rounds because with in 2 weeks or less it'll have flats. Then I have two of the same exact thing, looking to get rid of one. I do have one P with rounds that I'm hoping will remain rounded.

Oh and I put flats on everything. You guys should hear a Ken Smith with Chromes (I don't own one but played one at a music store). Simply BEAUTIFUL!

All my P basses, Jazz Basses and PJ Basses have flats. I have a G&L M 2000 with rounds just for variety.

I love flats on my SG and I also like them on a Precision. Definitely need/prefer rounds on a Jazz or any other two pickup bass.

I use LaBella 760fl on the Gibson exclusively. They are also my preferred flat on a Precision however Cobalt Flats also are a great second choice for me.

My bright, modern Yamaha TRB1005 sounds just right with Roto 77's which I've been using over 10 years. Thinking about trying some of the new EB Colbalts or maybe back to the Chromes for fun.

I voted Jazz... for me it's Sadowsky Black Label 40-100s. Warm and mellow with an articulate sort of growl in the upper mids that really "sings".

These choices are more for the type of bass (e.g. Jazz basses could also comprise the single-coil Jaguars, Peaveys, Sandbergs, Sadowsky's, etc...) than actual brands.

Sure sure, there are plenty of TB folks who don't like playing with flats, but I'm sure at least some of you like recordings with flats. So it can be either/or/and.

So if you have a preference, feel free to express why. Or if you don't have a preference, that's cool too. Maybe even list in some order which you like better.

I love the feeling of flats. Sounds great too, especially on a P bass. TB wasn't joking! I've been using six year old DR flats, guess I should replace them... But I am unsure what to get.

I mostly play jazz and oldies, but for rock I'll use a Johnson P with rounds.

My Sterling Sub4 is the only bass I have with flats. Sounds amazing, but I love rounds especially them clanky Prosteels.

I never quite got into the whole Jamerson P-thud thing, but I'll take a Geezer or Pete Cowling (Pat Travers Band) tone any old day. Jazzes... forget the zingy mid-scoop that always seems to get buried in the mix, and gimme some of that juicy, punchy 1960s JPJ.
