Funny you should ask - I own 2 basses and one of them is a P bass
The other is a Cortez copy of a Gibson Ripper.

Is that Cortez somewhat new, or extremely old? The reason I ask - I owned a 1977 Cortez Jazz bass copy, purchased new. It was my very first bass. I would be surprised to learn they are still making basses.

It's definitely not new, though some might take offense to calling it "extremely" old
It's most likely mid-70s but I haven't dated the pots or anything. It's made in Japan, as indicated by a "Steel Reinforced Neck" neckplate that's often seen on MIJ Epiphone and Univox instruments from the same era.

The rumor I hear is that the Cort brand was briefly known as Cortez, and at some point dropped the "ez". If that's the case, then Cort is still making basses these days!
