I sincerely hope Fender makes an American Jag someday again. They look so damn cool!
Only niggle for me is the position of the sharp-edged toggle switches for the Series/Parallel, P, J. When I slap (poorly and seldom) the closest one scrapes my knuckles up.
Other than that, it sounds great, plays well, looks wonderful, and has so many tones.
Probably something that could do all the other things a P-bass couldn't. But I can't envision a situation where a P would ever be my only bass. I don't even own one.
Yeah, my MkII fits the bill just fine, and the other 5 string fretted is a Stingray, as it complements the Wal really well.
A P and a J Bass will cover a lot of ground. The J Body might feel more comfortable to most but in my opinion the P-Bass neck and body is meatier in feel and sound. With a PJ setup on a P-Bass you get the best of both worlds.
LOL...already have the "other" bass but don't yet have the P-bass. That other bass is my Jazz Bass of course.

I was with you on that until I compared Mustang PJ to my Squier Jag. The Jag won out because of the comfort of the contoured body and an inexpensive upgrade platform.
if i only had two basses, none would be a precision.
I'll give you my usual answer to posts like this. If I was limited to (whatever the latest OP posits), then I wouldn't have any of them. I would sell them all - along with everything but my Harley (and whatever I needed to live on it), and my custom Colt 1911 - and disappear over the hill... I'm not a musician who just happens to like motorcycles, and I have no burning compulsion to make music. I'm a BIKER who just happens to like playing a bass guitar, once in a while.
But, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so...
I'd have to agree with jazzyvee - and several others. If I could only have two, I doubt I'd keep my lefty, A-spec necked '78 P-Bass - that I've had for 34 years. I would have to settle for my German '17 Hofner 500/2 Club Bass, and... probably my '95 Alembic Epic. However... If I did keep the P-Bass? Then, my other bass would probably be my '18 Danelectro Longhorn. And, I'd probably replace it's La Bella 760FX's with the made-for- it La Bella 760FD's - for "that Dano Sound"...

My sb2 for sure. Instinctively I'd want my Pbass becuase I love it. But I'd it's just two I'd be forced to choose between one of my Js and a one of my ebmm sterlings
