If you played guitar what would you play?

While I always enjoy fiddling around on a good strat or prs or even a les paul every now and then... When I play guitar it's usually straight up thrash/death metal. But I do sort of lean towards the 80's/90's school for that. So something in the lines of a higher quality older ibanez or even some of the nicer esp's that are popping up. Something along those lines. But as for amplification, obviously something modern and with a huge tube gain section. Mesa or XXL and such...

I currently own a newer kramer 6 string (gibson) hardtail. Get's the job done when I feel like putting the bass down for a change.

I already do own a couple guitars (one elec, one acoustic), but assuming that I was never a bassist and I put all the money I've spent into bass gear on guitars... I'd have a bog standard Strat and a Tele, just like I have a Jazz and a Precision. They complement each other so nicely and Mr. Fender's designs were just genius. No need for fancy electronics or pickups. Just tried-and-true passive instruments.

RIght now though, my only electric guitar is a $200 Squier Tele because I can't justify spending big bucks on an instrument that I'm only going to pick up every now and then. It's actually a pretty nice little axe. :)

I've got an Agile (Rondo) LP. I paid $170 for it. For my needs/wants, it's great. Has a mahogany body, set net, flame maple top, and plays/sounds good.

Sometime-I'd like to get one of the Line 6 guitars. Otherwise, a Strat, Tele, and maybe an acoustic. I gave the last acoustic guitar I bought to my Dad since I didn't play it much.

Oh yeah...I've got my LP tuned BEADGC, so it's really similar to my 6 string bass. I haven't felt like putting out the effort to learn how to it in normal tuning.

One of these, for sure.

Oh man, I had one of these Ibanez Destroyer's (just like in this pic) back in the late 70's...I think I bought it new in like 1978...Great guitar!...man I wish I still had it...but I traded it for a Peavey CS 800 power amp because we needed power for the PA...what an idiot I was...

IIRC, these were involved in the lawsuit...and thats why Ibanez stopped making this version, and redesigned it...which didn't hold a candle to these old ones (IMO).

I imagine I'd play a Squier Telecaster converted to an Esquire and a Bigsby B5 added. It's a good thing I have one.[/QUOTE

A buddy of mine has that gtr! Converted by Dawn at Naked Body Guitars. Killer surf player. Myself? I have a highly modded neckthrough Strat I got at a yard sale for $15 and just corrupted the hell out of.

Your pal's got the good taste. I did the mods myself. Still needs a paint job & a couple parts upgrades but I love the damned thing despite how cheap it was to start.

*edit* I highly recommend a pro installing a trem. Turned out to be a fair pain doing it myself.

My playing isn't too great, but I noodle away anyway. I have a

MIM Strat
Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500RC 6 string acoustic
LaPatrie classical acoustic.

I like playing them all, also I like my son's Epi SG 400.

I lust after a Taylor GC-8 small bodied short scale acoustic. And also the Gibson J-45. And a Taylor 12 string. The Martin Eric Clapton model is pretty nice, too! And I like Teles, either Fender or G&L. I love them all, but too much money, not enough talent.

PS Munjibunga: Great rig!!!

i got a squier custom tele with two "duncan designed" humbuckers for xmas 2007. it's fantastic, i mostly use it to write stuff for my band, i simply don't trust my guitarists to write their own lines! i also end up writing lots of isis-y post metal on it that i'd love to do with a band some day but i just can't bring myself to take the plunge into full blown guitarist-dom.
