They are good for what they do though, and if you can get past the wall of abrasive noise and the (gasp!) screamed vocals instead of sang, you will notice there is some good music in there.

Secondly, if they really can play that fast in unison (and how do you tell if that's the case, if all you can hear is a wall of abrasive noise? I certainly couldn't hear anything but that wall in those videos, although careful inspection of their arms and hands showed similar position changes at certain times) then they're currently wasting their skills.

Anyway, hardcore/metal isnt for everybody, especially bands like The Locust who are way out there in the musical spectrum. They definately aren't a pill you are going to be able to swallow after one listen or without having prior experience with this genre of music.
Also, check out an MP3 or two of them. Granted, it may not be anything you'd ever listen to, but you can tell they are playing actual music. this type of music cant be watched live on a video and be heard well enough. Either seeing it live for yourself or listening to a cd would probably change your views.

Hey dude, I dig the Locust too.
Some of you guys just dont understand that there are differnet ways of expressing yourself musically and having played with bands of this type before I can assure you that its not just random chaos.
I see it a lot like really out there bebop or avant garde jazz in that if you dont knmow what you're listening for you just dont understand it or apreciate it.
This is very precise music and the energy is what is amazing about it.
The bassist isnt anything special, but I am a fan of their drummer. I like what he does for the band.

Doesn't sound like any hardcore or metal to me. All the metal I've listened to has a much more definite beat and features awesome shred solos. And if you're talking about the true underground hardcore (not the commercial stuff that we think is hardcore), that's much different, and can be very melodic and pleasing to listen to.

I never took punk as a style of music to show off your abilities, even if it is pleasuring yourself or your guitar.
They aren't so bad. I heard a few of their studio songs and it's not that bad. They have some cool little melodies in there, and the drums are great. I just like the way they (as many hardcore and metal bands do) change rhythms so abruptly. I don't know what it's called, but it's pretty cool. The bassist is nothing that special, but I wouldn't say it's the "worst thing" you'll ever hear. Of course that's all subjective, but in their defense, they definitely have a style of their own, what with the weird keyboards.
