Double Bass IK Multimedia Irig as a Preamp?

Just an odd thought.... Has anyone ever tried using an iRig Pro as a preamp for their pickup or mic system? I take my Ipad to all gigs for my charts, and it seems like this might be a cool system to control my eq and gain, since everything would be on my mic stand at my fingertips. I currently am using a Troll mic and an Ehrlund for my old Juzek, going into an Acoustic Image Clarus.

The Troll mic is fantastic, by the way (thanks Brandon), but for some rooms it does need a preamp with some eq. Of course, the Ehrlund also needs a preamp.

If you can dial in a sound that you like with that setup I don't see a reason why you wouldn't do it.

I use an IRig Pro (in conjunction with AmpKit software) to shape the sound on my Azola Bugbass, and it does so nicely. The one drawback is that the IRig connects through the iPad's power input, which means you have to run on battery power. All that sound modeling, in my experience, drains the battery fairly rapidly. I'd be uncomfortable relying on it for a multi-hour live audience gig, but your mileage may vary.
