IK TONEX pedal

Thanks! So, re-amping is only required if I wanted to capture the cab as well, no!? If I only wanted to capture the amp, or perhaps the amp and a specific setting/tone from whatever effects are in the amp's effects loop, then couldn't I just use the DI out from the amp into any audio interface and be done with??

In any case, my bet is that many will use this pedal/software combo without ever considering to capture profiles themselves, and rather rely on others to provide pretty much all kind of profiles conceivable and make them available via ToneNet.
If you want to make a capture of a device, I believe you need some form of reamping since you need to run the test signals through the device you are capturing. So it's not just getting the signal from your amp, you also need to send a signal to it.

The absolute minimum that you need is a 2-in 2-out interface, but you could have issues with signal level and impedance. The most common problem is the line level output from your interface overloading the input of your amp. If you simply turn down the output volume on your interface, you will reduce the signal to noise ratio and end up with a noisier capture. Reamp boxes are purpose-built for this job, and will likely get better results.

OK. So the IK Capture box isn't the only way to create captures. Proper computer audio I/O is a given, and other re-amp/load box interfaces to get the captures desired. Makes sense, but if you don't already have those interfaces it's an added expense to the Tone-X pedal, whereas a pedal like the QC is all-inclusive for doing captures, right?

There's also the IK TONEX Capture. It's used for amp/pedal tone capture, reamping, and tone modelling. Looks like a similar idea to the QC Neural Capture…

I watched Eye Patch's video review on both the pedal and Capture, plus software and his conclusion is that it isn't an easy process downloading to the Capture. I know for sure he's much more equipped to do so than a techno-boob like me.

I don't know if it matters but I believe the pedal has an interface built in.

From the manual:

"Features: ....
• Built-in USB port to use TONEX Pedal as an audio interface for recording or for PRESET management."

Edit: To prevent confusion also from the manual:

"TONEX Pedal is not meant to provide the full Modeler experience to capture rigs. Use a dedicated and fully featured audio interface to create your TONE MODELs."

I’m really liking the digital stuff that’s been coming out lately. The ToneX pedal is something I can definitely get on board with. My local guitar shop hasn’t got it in stock yet. But they do have something else that's caught my eye. The IK Z-Tone DI.

What I heard when replaying the video was that it can be used as an audio interface via USB.Whatever that means.

On TGP they say the with Tonex pedal included Tonex Max software (needed to do the capturing it seems) is non-transferable. I checked the IK/Tonex website and could not find a definitive answer if this is true or not. This Tonex Max is expensive (around $200), so this could lower the resale value of the Tonex Pedal a lot. Something to investigate if you want to buy and maybe resell this unit.

In this TGP thread it is several times mentioned the software is non-transferable, the in the thread active IK/Tonex representative is vague about it and does not confirm nor deny.

Definitely something to keep in mind!

My understanding from that thread is that the software included with the pedal is actually NOT the full version, and must be purchased separately. That's an extra $200 on top of the pedal price. I don't the pedal is very useful without that software. I was pretty interested in this pedal until I learned that. I'd like to be mistaken but a rep from IK posted about that in the Gear Page thread.

Absolutely a deal breaker if true.

This is not what I've seen on the IK Tonex Pedal web page. Says Tonex Max IS included.

I saw that and assumed the same thing. That made a great selling point. However, I'm almost positive that further questioning revealed that the included software is a limited version. I'll go back and try to find the exact post. I don't mean to misinform anyone.

The pedal includes a full license for Tonex Max.

The IK/Tonex representativ on TGP refers to their Legal Page on their website and does not answer the questions about resale/transfer of the Tonex Max software that comes with the Tonex Pedal.

I found this:

4.3 Not For Resale
If the Product is labeled “NFR” or “Evaluation Copy”, then, notwithstanding other sections of this EULA, you may not sell, or otherwise transfer the Product.

4.5 Software Transfer
.......
b) If the Product is part of a bundle of IK Multimedia software and hardware, only the hardware can be resold / transferred. Any bundled software Product is considered NFR.
