IK TONEX pedal

The pedal includes a full license for Tonex Max.

Thanks for confirmation. I came back to verify that as well. I think I'm going to have to give this pedal a day in court. I've auditioned Amplitube and the sounds are outstanding. Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, at least as far as the sound is concerned. By most accounts the UI is a nightmare which does give me pause. However if this sounds as good as I think it may then I'm at least willing to try it out. The new Berg pre looks amazing but I can not justify the price tag.

This is the best information I can find on the IK website about transferring licenses. It looks like there will be a fee if it's even possible to transfer to another user: IK Multimedia. Musicians First

You can NOT transfer/sell the Tonex Max software that comes with the Tonex Pedal.

On the LEGAL pages of IK/Tonex it says:

"4. Description of other rights and limitations:
4.5.b) If the Product is part of a bundle of IK Multimedia software and hardware, only the hardware can be resold / transferred."

IK Multimedia. Musicians First

Someone on TGP checked his IK account and confirmed that the Tonex Max software that came with his Tonex Pedal indeed can not be transfered. If you sell the pedal and the new owner wants to capture his gear he needs to buy the Tonex Max software separately (around $200).

Seems like a really nice pedal though!

does this tone capture thing work ?

The Tonex pedal is basically a playback mechanism for the amp captures and cab IRs.

You don't capture with the Tonex pedal. You capture with your computer using the Tonex software. It's standalone on the computer, and also a plugin for DAWs.

Besides making your own captures, you can pick up captures at tone.net and many contributers now have their own sites where they sell their captures.I'm not going to do captures, I'm only picking up ones others have done.

There are hundreds of videos on youtube of guitar players capturing their amps and then comparing the original to tonex. Several include comparisons to QC and Kempter.

Unfortunately, only a couple of bass player videos are up.

IMHO - the differences in captures between Tonex ecosystem, QC, and Kemper, is the ability to create and share captures.

IK really has done a great job on the captures as many youtubers have fabulous captures. It's an easy process with Tonex, and easy to share. And very affordable.

I am still VERY interested in the Tonex despite the fact that I am still undecided on whether I like the Helix Floor or Boss GT-1000 better. And so the Tonex has me questioning whether to sell my pedals or use it on my pedalboard and selling either the Helix or GT… It’s great having so many excellent options! But dang hard decisions are ahead! I don’t think I would want to use the Tonex with either the GT or the Helix - as I fear latency would become an issue. Although I would be more comfortable using it with the GT, since its latency is only about 0.7 ms.

I am waiting for the IK Amplitube 5 pedal :D:)

I don’t believe so. You might be able to “capture” that sound if you have capture capabilities, but the Tonex won’t save presets with adjustable effects - except for the built-in compressor and reverb.

Anyone here actually got the TONEX pedal yet ?, what are your thoughts, does it do all that the hype says ? does this tone capture thing work ? great tones ?
So many questions, maybe I should buy one and try it myself ?
I got the tonex software (tonex se i think), which has the same sounds and gives me the ability to do profiles (which the pedal doesn't - profiling is 100% done on the computer software). I use it on the PC for home pactise, and on the Ipad for some fun at band pactise. Having the pedal is imo only necessary if you want to use tonex on stage.

I'd advise you to install the trial version of tonex, which gives you access to most of the functionalities. You will be able to try all the user-made captures, but with an annoying white noise to make sure you have to buy the product in the end. But to gauge if you enjoy the sound (and UI), that trial version is very generous.

imo tonex is lackluster for bass. Tonex's strong point is it's profiling ability, and the bass community isn't big enough (yet), there are very few profiles to chose from. The few bass sounds in there are good tho. It also seemed to be able to capture "blended" dist/clean signals.

I just bought a Tonex pedal for guitar, but am surprised by how good the bass amp and cab captures are. IK Multimedia has bundled a full set of the standard captures (B15N, SVT, and a full set of GK stuff). There are also some good free-user submitted tone models on Tonenet, and I expect more will be coming. I will be using the Tonex software for sure in the studio (I don't play bass out live) when I need to mix amp +DI. I find the Tonex amp+cab bass sound to be much more convincing than what I was able to get out of my Helix Stomp..

This is great !! The first time I have heard a comment with a point of reference on how the Tonex compares to a modeler.
I have used a variety of modelers and have never been satisfied with getting the tone and feel/response from them.
I am hoping the Tonex can do this.
