I'm buying a banjo

Honestly, I'm a little worried though that they are going to put another stent in. The last was 2 years ago in August.
Well just don't be as stingy as I was if you ever decide to live the dream. Get one that's fairly close to set up already and doesn't have cheap j-hooks that bend out of shape.
Sending positive vibes in hopes you don't need the second stent.
Well recovery has its ups and downs what with getting used to a new health regimen and a change in meds. Had a couple nice blood pressure drops...those are fun...all the blood gets really slow all at once, and the only thing you can do for 90 minutes is lie down and sweat like crazy.
So not much banjo to report, I'm sorry...but at least I'm getting better. Today's a pretty good day so far.

That all went to hell. Started feeling worse, and the cardiologist wants to stent me after all. Hoping I can get in soon but due to Covid the hospital is only taking emergency patients for surgery. So there's been a little writing of lyrics going on here and there for my banjo power trio, but that's about it aside from an occasional strum. Things that require more concentration than typing on here are a bit rough for me ATM.
I had a banjo early HS and I sold it 3 years ago and regret doing so. I learnt the basics of clawhammer style and it was fun. If you get a chance dive deep into banjo music, especially raw banjo recordings from the Carolinas. Banjo and other older folk instruments is something I would love to get back into, I also love to learn some Irish style banjo, originally what made me buy my old banjo till I learnt of Mandolin-Banjos!
May it all fall into place soon. And may your time in hospital be a very short
Hang in there. I had a stent a couple of years ago. In the long run you'll feel better. I know exactly what your going through. The blood pressure drops happens all the time with me too. I'm gonna try to address that problem…again…with my doctor appointment tomorrow.

So I had the heart cath and stent put in late morning Tuesday, and honestly, it wasn't very painful. I'm still a little sore at the incision, but otherwise I'm good. Now what WAS painful were the Covid test where they went up my nostrils and into the brain (negative), and the regular catheter when I couldn't go to the bathroom. Had one when I was 14 and knew what to expect, but nothing quite prepares you for that feeling, and what's worse is the burning sensation the next few times you go. Still adjusting to new meds, still a tad dizzy at times, but I seem to be OK. I just need to lose the 40 lbs I lost and regained.
Anyway, major banjo news...I couldn't take these cheap j-hooks anymore, so I just bought 30 Gold-Tone hooks. I tried to tighten down the head because it stretched out, and a couple more of these crappy hooks bent out of shape. Most people recommended their hooks as replacements, but they didn't give any measurements on their website. But they're very responsive to email and I not only got the measurements but got an invite to their headquarters in Titusville to let them make sure they'd fit if I wasn't. Knowing I couldn't go there and leave without a banjo, even after being off of work for what will be 6 weeks, I politely declined
I'll tell you...I should have ponied up the dough for something better. The Dean's saving grace is its incredible lightness and above average fretwork, but man, they do not make it easy to love.

I hadn't realized the gravity of your health situation, hang tough. Getting old may suck but it sure beats the alternative!
I've also been considering taking up banjo since our regular Friday night Bluegrass/Americana jam is usually short one and tends to be long on bassists. I'm often the only electric player too, and it would be nice to be able to just walk over there again like I used to when there was a house upright living in the jam space.
A pretty good buddy of mine does all kinds of fusion-ish banjo stuff, but I can't find any vids of the hip hop tune I used to see him pull out for a while at shows I mixed for him. I have some live board recordings but I probably can't post them publicly. Here's a more traditional sounding older vid with another buddy of mine on bass:

Yep, that's where I first met him, on one of Tony's gigs in the mid-'00s. Both those guys live around an hour from here, so we are lucky enough to be able to see them on small-ish club dates at least a few times a year.
My brother in-law ported to mainly playing banjo a decade or so ago, and by now he rules on that like he's long ruled on guitar and mandolin, then fiddle, and eventually piano. Wish I lived closer to him so I could get a few free lessons!

Yep, they went through the groin on me. It really wasn't a bad procedure at all...I'm a little sore but that's about it. The bad was the pee-pee catheter and the aftermath. BTW, I thought Covid tests didn't have to go so deep into your sinus cavity anymore, but this one felt like it hit my brain, it was in so far!
