I'm drinking the wrong kool-aid!

I'd like to throw the following into the equation:

If we were all piano tech geeks, we'd be talking about what kind of strings (ok, we do that), what kind of soundboard (ok, we do that too in the "body" sense), and what kind of hammers sound best (the thing that strikes the strings). And, if there were pianos designed to strike the strings differently, then we'd be endlessly talking about which of those systems sound the best.

But interestingly, we *have* those same issues with the bass guitar, it's just that it's our fingers that are striking the strings (or picks), and our technique of attack that varies how and where our fingers hit the strings. That right there plays such an important role on how the final sound comes out, that one person's technique could make Rig A sound amazing, while another person's would make it sound bad.

And then there's personal preferences in tone too!

I guess what I have to accept is that my fingers, and my style of playing and my tonal preferences for some reason don't match up to the majority of other bass players. And thats, ok. :)
