I'm getting fixed tomorrow

It ain't no thing. I had no drugs, and it was just me and the doc. Had a nice conversation all the way through. Some minor pain when pulling one through, the other I didn't feel at all. All in all, no worries.
It's been about 10 years, and no problems (or children) since. Good luck, don't sweat it.
And to whoever was worried about needles, I never saw one.

a big +1 to what Blues just said. This was my experience exactly....

The part where the doctor was feeling around to find the right spot hurt pretty badly, but the local anesthetic made it so I couldn't really feel anything else down there while they were doing it. For the recovery, a day and a half in bed with vicadin and "special" brownies kept me feeling no pain.

The worst part is that I know there will be a time in my life when I'll probably have this done. Maybe we can make huge advances in this field by that time. I read something about a male pill the other day. Maybe that'll come along.

I'll the lucky generation that doesn't have to be poked and snipped.

I had the snip in june. No big deal - the worst was the anesthetic. I was a bit sore the rest of the day. The next day I did _WAY_ too much and paid for it that night. Forced myself to do next to nothing the next couple of days and was fine.

20 "tubal clearances", as my wife called, later I went to get tested and there were no swimmers. Hurray!

I think 99% of the trepidation men have is merely psychological.

Then again, walking back to the car I just realized how odd it was that I just had a very pleasant 20 minute conversation with the doc while he cut apart my balls :)

I've known several guys that have had this done and had no problems, been back to work in a day or two, and never needed more than an Advil and some frozen peas to get through the soreness. That said, I had mind three years ago and it was not like this ... at all.

What I thought was only going to be a couple of days of soreness turned into two weeks of swelling and bruising that only Vicodin could kick ... followed by a couple of months of sporadic "discomfort." I don't know if I just didn't heal well or the doc was a quack, but it all turned out OK and everything works just fine.

Like any surgery, there are complications that can happen so be sure and talk to your doctor about any concerns or issues you have. It will never be the best experience of my life, but I'm glad I did it and would do it again - good luck to you.

sure was for me. my second kid is 10. i had put it off the whole time till last september. i was dead set against electing to cut up my body and was willing to wear a wetsuit (jimmy?) to stay whole.

that changed when my marriage fell apart. i found myself motivated to not have to deal with birth control anymore. i now know there was no reason to wait.

the procedure was a real challenge for me. i am big on mind-over-matter and staying calm in a storm, but i was shaking the whole time. i was taking deep breaths and at one point the doc told me he thought i might hyperventilate if i didn't slow down. i was actually surprised that i could not settle in, but i managed to make some jokes and keep a conversation up. the soldering iron helped with the humor, but it was kinda weird to see smoke.

and yes, the nurse (female) shaved me like a pro (which makes sense i guess).

i do not recommend driving yourself home. and a big +1 to staying on your butt for 2 days. i used ice the first day and one vicadin that nite. after that, it was just some funny feelings on one side for a week maybe. it all worked out fine and now i think there was no need for me to be a wimp.

definitely go back for the sperm counts. one thing i did not like was that the doc told me the standard 6 weeks and 16 tube clearings. i think they say that to make it sound quick. obviously, everyone is different, but me and my gf got to planning for a 2 month range. it took me 5 months and over 60 events to get clear. i will admit, it was a fun time "clearing me out." we gave each one a name, went thru the alphabet twice, then it started to get old. i got on a first name basis with the staff as i went back over and over for checks.

oh, and while it made the staff laugh when i asked to keep the two little pieces of tube, i was serious. and they would not let me. bummed me out. i still have the knot that was in my daughter's umbilical chord, as well as both kids' baby teeth. i like that stuff.

C'mon, don't brag :D

No seriously. This one girl I dated got knocked up twice. The first time, we were not using birth control because, due to an extremely serious childhood condition, every doctor said she was completely infertile and incapable of having children. After that she started on the pill. Yet again, my boys did their job. If only I was as hard working as they are.

Been there done that - 12years ago after my 3rd kid was born. Best thing I could do!! I don't regret it at all. It was different at first, but that all fades and it is buisness as usual without any of the thoughts or concerns about swimmys in the pool.. Just make sure you have yourself tested for the little guys as your doctor suggests. For me it was every 3 months for a year and then about the 2 year mark. After that you should be good.
For me though, I not only had them cut, I had a small section (length) removed and had them cauterized and stitched. I was making damn sure there could be no reversal or mistakes.
