Agree w/Picton - if a luthier I considered did that type of repair I'd run the other direction as quickly as possible!

As the saying goes, just because something makes a statement doesn't mean anyone has an obligation to take it seriously... (or something to that nature)
And as an artist, I'm at a loss understanding the 'something artistic' part... But then again, glue on a few gears and some brass tubing and vualla! Steampunk!
Yeah, I know. I come from the engineering world, but spent part of my career working daily with those artist types. So I like to poke fun at them. I was lectured to many times about how, as artists, they were making a statement. When, to me, the statement that came through was sloppy engineering, crude craftsmanship, and a dumb idea.

Yes, but FTR, some artists are unlike the 'artist types' you describe...

Well of course that would never pass muster if you're paying a luthier. But shoot, the guy's 80, has less time on earth than he's spent, and he turned an unusable bass into something that he can use now.

There was another thread about using Gorilla Glue as a finish. Maybe this guy got confused and thought it was about using Gorilla Glue in order to get to your finished results

As someone who builds these type of things as prototypes for future projects(although I've shied away from gorilla glue and cutting down necks like that, lol), I can say that I appreciate your outlook on it. I just disagree for myself, you can play whatever you want!
