I'm glad I actually got something constructive done today.
Not here, but productive none the less.
The first song that comes to mind having used that round wound percussive sound
was Slow Ride by Foghat, 1975.
It was completely different from Chris Squire's picked round wound tones.

But I'm so not down with idea that bass isn't bass if there's a tweeter. Of course it is...not like it has to stop functioning as a bass. I don't like them, but bass is whatever anyone wants it to be.

admittedly I'm old school...don't use tweeters at all if I can get around it...my experience is that good quality drivers don't need much help to project bass tones...even slap tones...but budget rigs often need the help of tweeters to get the top harmonics out in the mix...in many (not all) cases...tweeters are intended to compensate for lower quality drivers and bass cabs...
But that is my preference. I don't think anyone using an 810e is doing something wrong. It's not what I want.

Same here, and my guess is ampeg uses a variant of the BP102, which rolls off pretty quick in the high end. It's a great low end driver though, you know, a "real" bass players 10.
