And I know if you plugged in to my rig you would get "JimmyM" sound, and I played through yours it would sound like me too. The majority of sound is in our hands. The amplification chain is just the icing.

Tweeters are useful sometimes.

Other times a tabbed patch of gaff tape is as good as an attenuation pot.

I would never question players that are happy with their no-tweeter cabs. Whatever sounds good is _right_.

But I will point out that if you've heard playback of your playing thru good studio speakers and liked it, then tweeters as a group are not the thing you dislike.

What you probably dislike is either
a) a less-than-smooth transition between the woofer and tweeter (i.e., the cab's crossover);
b) crappy tweeters; or
c) you just like old school sound which doesn't have a lot of high end.

If c), then there are many ways to cut the high freq's you don't care for; losing the tweeter is just one of them.

I made that point as well but one response was "No, I just don't like tweeters" There is a line between bias and open minded examination and there are plenty of views on both sides of that line here on TB and in the world in general. Some people have already made their minds up irregardless of whatever data is presented to them.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm for whatever anyone wants their sound to be. I quoted Beans' months-old post in my sig, but only because it's funny Just wanted to make that clear to those who might think I'm goofing on their tastes with that sig. However, I'll probably pull it just because I don't want to insult my bass friends who like the highs. I guess as I get older, political correctness appeals more and more to me

Keep the sig. I like being compared to a bird. It makes me feel soaring and beautiful. Both are things I'm not. Unless you mean that tweeters are for pigeons. If that's what it means, I'm Horribly Insulted!

Hands are all irrelevant. The sound is all in whether you have a nitro finish on the back of your neck or vintage transistors in your shoes. If you don't have vintage transistors in your shoes, a tweeter won't help you anyway. When you spray out the back of your neck, make sure you mask off your shirt collar, since overspray will have a negative influence on your tone. It will lead your tone astray, and the next thing you know, your tone and the overspray will be sneaking cigarettes in an alley somewhere. That is bad, bad, bad.

Never was a big tweeter fan, actually I was ambivalent, until a picked up a Epifani cab with one, just a modicum of high end mixed in with the lows on that cab sounds really nice, without being harsh or jarring, as many horns/tweeters are to my ear. I never was a hater, but this particular rig made me like them a bit more.

Most likely doesn't have a crossover, just a resistor in front of the tweet to protect the amp.

You can cut whatever wired you need to so it just goes input jack---> woofer and it'll be just fine.

Could also put a simple on/off switch in the + wire going to the piezo to shut it off.

In any case, leave the tweeter mounted in the cab, even if it's disconnected, just to plug the hole it's mounted in.

And that is the problem will. A good piezo, properly crossedover can sound great. In fact they can sound a lot better than a many expensive compression horns.

Get a cheap one and follow the "piezos don't need a crossover, just a resistor" rule and it will suck ( & blow and hiss). Actually it is the amp that will hiss.

Put passinwind's new baby through and you won't hear the hiss!
