I'm pooped

Not if you're in a municipality that derives a significant part of its revenue from traffic tickets. Ten mph over will often get you a ticket, but seven seems to be safe.

There was a little town here that everyone knew would nail you for five over. I don't know if they still do but I never test it.

I drove up the Valley last year, and there was a long line of cars (maybe 50) going 70 mph in both lanes. This went on for over 100 miles. I finally managed to work my way up to the slowpoke and saw that it was a white law-enforcement car with spotlights driving at 70 in the fast lane. I edged up to the side of the car and I could see that it had an insignia on the door, but as I got right up beside it I saw that it was a Fish and Game car. So I waved and hauled ass on by at 80. In the rear view I saw a stream of cars following me. Although I was disgusted that it took so long to get past him, I thought it was funny when the flood gates opened.

I've overtaken an actual state highway patrol who was doing the posted limit, with me doing five over, when everyone else was afraid to pass. But that was when I was young and full of P&V. Not sure I would have the nads to do it now.

I hate it when the small town cops fly by you at 25+ over the limit and you know they're 20 miles out of their jurisdiction so it's not an emergency.

Ouch! That is good to know. I always wondered why Americans drove so slow.

Generally, you are safe at 20kph (12mph) over at highway speeds in Ontario.
When I got out of the Navy 20 years ago I took a trip from FL up the east coast to Buffalo, from Niagra over to Michigan and across the UP through Wisconsin and back to Minneapolis. During our stint across the lower part of Canada I was driving about 80 mph and kept getting passed - especially by folk in minivans. It was odd.

My dad passed back in Feb. this year. Having to arrange to fly from FL to MN was last minute, so we had to drive 2 hrs to Orlando to catch the cheapest flight. We had enough time but due to the urgency of the whole ordeal I was rushing (even forgot to change my shoes - left with my house shoes on, but they sure were comfortable!) That said, I was taking full advantage of my Audi's highway prowess (with appropriate electronic countermeasures) and made good time down i95 until hitting construction on i4, which brought us all back down to 70 mph or so.

I did wind up inheriting my dad's V1; paired with my Escort 9500ix I have good situational awareness now. Drive safe...

I had a guy following me for a couple hundred miles, and every time I'd move over to let him by, he'd go with me. So we were kind of teamed up.
I hate pilot fish. I like to say that they have no will of their own, but I suspect they follow because they assume that you'll get the speeding ticket, not them. I'll slow down and let them pass rather than tailing me for extended periods. Pilot fish in the blind spot are the worst.

The last ticket I got was for doing 50 in a 45 zone on Mount Rose in Nevada. That was in 1987.

I do 80 mph on interstate 5 when the conditions are good. That stretch can get real dangerous when it gets foggy and people still want to drive 80 mph.
If I am a passenger I can be sound asleep and still know when we are passing Coalinga. You can smell that country air.

I wonder where "Interstate 5" becomes "The 5". The Grapevine maybe?

@Munjibunga, is it "The 5" down south? If not, where does it change? Camp Pendleton?

Technically, yes but is it colloquially known as "The 5" to northerners also? I always thought that the "The [insert freeway/highway number]" thing was more of an L.A. thing.
You may be right, most people in Norcal drop the word "the" and just call it "five." As in "I like 101 more than 5 because it is more scenic."

No, it's "the 5" all the way down, but I didn't want to flummox the unhip. We went up the grapevine at 75 in 95-degree heat with the air conditioning on, against the sign's advice, and the temperature needle didn't move.

I was at the front of a line of cars doing 130kph (80mph) in a 100 outside Toronto and passed a speed trap with multiple cars. They peeled off the cars at the end of the line and I got off scot-free :hyper:
