I'm predicting the end for Carvin.

I really dig some of Carvins stuff! Never owned one of their basses but everyone I have played has been great quality. I have owned one of their amps and two cabs. The amp junked out on me. I still have one of the cabs. I dig the new styles they have put out! Hope they are around for years to come!
I had one in the late-80s, but that was the only one. Their relationship with me has mostly been as eye candy.
They have a loyal fan base. Nothing succeeds like success.
My only mild criticism of Carvin, Kiesel, or whatever is the instruments are horrifically gaudy looking. That aside, they're very well made, play great, and sound great. I own a DC 727 guitar and it's awesome. The basses I've played were nice too. I hope they continue to do well.

When I see them used they seem to be quite a bit lower in price if it's at a store & overpriced if it's a private sale.
I agree. I ordered strings from them a couple of weeks ago and other than an email confirming that they charged my card, I've heard nothing at all. The customer service in general is poor. It's as if they have forgotten that they service customers and think that we are lucky that they sell to us at all. Silly when there are so many other good luthiers out there who want to take care of the customer.
Today's date is 3/26/16. Carvin's websites are still up and going. We will check back in 6 months to see if they are gone. I am not holding my breath.
Well this thread scared me. I have a Carvin 5 string, not sure of the exact model but it's beautiful. Only reason I'm selling it is because I want to go back to a 4 stringer. Any Carvin fans know what model this is/how much I can get for this if there are no dings and has only been played maybe for a month? I believe I bought it for $1200 or so new from the SD factory

This is just silly. The OP, I believe, has no idea what they are talking about. Carvin/Kiesel will not be going out of business anytime soon.

I think the substance of the OP was "I don't like Carvin's new ideas, and I remember somebody said their Carvin amp failed one time, and everybody talks doom and gloom about American manufacturers these days, so I'm going to say my dislike of the new ideas warrants doom and gloom on the whole company."

Because Everyone and their brother has or does own a MM bass! It's crazy how many are out there and 99% of them are freakin' boat anchors (in weight)!! PLUS, their fretboard is a bit too narrow. I used to own a few and found myself popping the G string off the edge far too often! Never again. I'd rather own a Carvin than any MM.
I assume your question is a sincere one. I have two from Carvin, and a Tom Clement.
After a year of reading and looking and studying I chose my first Carvin in 2004. "Why?" is a good question. For me, I knew what I was looking for and a general price point. The only maker that hit each point on my list was Carvin. In short, it was a combination of choices (ranging from design and build to electronics and paint job), to quality level and cost. What I got was neck through, string through, tilt back headstock, no string tree, 24 fret, ebony board, 18v active/passive, jet black in gloss, J at the neck/MM at the bridge/piezos in the saddles, 3 band EQ, J/MM blend, and piezo blend, with a splitter for the MM. The cost was $869.00 with a case, built for me, and shipped to my door. It has never needed a truss rod adjustment.
Later, my ears desired my first fretless. That first fretless was my second Carvin. It is my avatar picture. That is 24 stops, BEM board epoxy coated, neck through, a claro walnut top, a walnut body, a 3rd layer of maple (creates a body binding look as you can see), string through, in gloss, 18v active/passive, piezos in the saddles, 3 band eq, two J style pickups with a blend, and a blend for the piezo, claro walnut heastock cover, and no string tree. That bass was $1900.00 shipped to my door with a case.
I'll spare you the details about the Tom Clement.
I enjoy all 3 of my basses very much. They are all 3 quite different. I rotate them sometimes by set list and sometimes by frequency of time (not by the song, like I should). I'll just say I put a lot of thought into what I wanted before I got each of my 3 basses. Two of those led me to Carvin. One of those led me to Tom Clement.
