Oh wow! I never expected to see an SBMM DarkRay. I've never been interested in a DarkRay as I'm not into Darkglass or heavy distortion, but if I were to run into an SBMM DarkRay I would give it a run. It could be fun for a little bit. The blue lit distortion backed off a bit might sound pretty good in person. Or maybe not.
I'm surprised that the onboard drive option is even remotely popular. Most of the time, distortion is not first in the signal chain. The drive sounds good to my ears, but it's definitely not something that would fit in my signal chain.
Just watched the second (shorter) video. Is it just me or does the Alpha and Omega tone sound exactly the same?

That would be nice but I dont see it happening. Im sure some would just be happy to get white and 5 string option as well. That purple sparkle Sterling Ray finish would be a great option too.
Not my cup of tea. I don’t really use dirt or distortion. That is one cool looking bass! I can see some diggin it.
$2000 CAD for me locally.
Think I'll save my money for the Alpha Omega pedal instead.
Yea, I too question it as a concept. I wouldn't want to have to stop playing to turn on a distortion. Plus the obvious limitations with effect order.
I also think it's a shame they went with the pickups that have that curved sort of bezel between the screws. It looks like an improvement but the regular old style is much better for anchoring your thumb.
The pedal is just so much more useful than an onboard circuit would be. These are a cool gimmick, but unless it's the one and only effect you use, it's better to have dirt on your board instead of in your bass.$2000 CAD for me locally.
It does not sound the same from videos I have watched.
Im not at all interested because Im not into distortion and I also do not like ebony on StingRays.
I guess there's a market for them out there. Somewhere. No clue who's buying these besides completionists and collectors. Maybe bass-cable-amp folks that play metal? If they were cramming the Darkglass X7 circuit in there, it would make a little more sense to me since there's compression built into it.
Some of you folks might need a hearing test, because there's a major difference in the distortion sounds of both channels. Are you watching in HD on YouTube? If not, the lower bitrate compression is destroying the audio. And if you're not listening over decent speakers or headphones, you're not likely to hear a difference either. If you're watching in HD and with good audio output, please book a visit with the audiologist and wear earplugs at rehearsals and gigs.
There's a lot more treble-forward 'bite' and mid-range punch in the blue mode. Red mode is a little more scooped and woolier; more of a fuzz-like character.
