Improvised Amp Covers for Inexpensive Amps

I recently bought a Fender Rumble 40. As far as I know, there are no covers for this amp. I plan to take my amp out tomorrow. I think that it is wise to have a cover or case for anything electronic or that can otherwise be damaged by foul weather. Am I being overly paranoid? If not, what do you suggest as an alternative for a non-existent amp cover?

You might check with lecover (http://www.lecover.com/). If they don't have a cover, you send the dimensions and they will make it and add it to their list. I don't think there's an extra charge for new designs. I've ordered a couple from them (new designs, they fit perfectly) and I'm very happy. Depending on options they cost between $20 and $40.

Looks like they have Rumble 350 and Rumble 410 covers but no Rumble 40 yet.

Do you have a sewing machine, or know anybody that has one (and knows how to use it)? It's relatively simple to sew covers, I've done several using vinyl-covered upholstery fabric from the fabric stores. You must have a pretty stout sewing machine--like a 60 year old Singer-- for the heavier vinyl though, the newer machines are lightweight plastic and can't sew much heavy stuff.

Non-vinyl-covered upholstery cloth is easier than the vinyl stuff, though it's not rain resistant like the vinyl; blue denim material is even easier to sew but offers virtually no water repellency. Anything is better than nothing, though, and you can get a little water repellency by spraying the cloth with Scotchguard or something similar maybe.

Heavy poly sheeting and black duct tape!

Cut the arms off the right size old used sweatshirt and there ya go!

This is true. Use the remaining sleeves (cut out some leg holes) to fabricate a sweatshirt for your cat or small-breed dog. The cuffed end makes a great finished collar. Stencil you favorite college logo on the side.

As far as the amp: snag a couple of moving quilts / pads. They're something like $10 each. If desired, punch some grommets thru critical areas and secure with bungees.

I have a Fender Rumble 75 combo amp and every time I transport it I always wrap it in a mover’s quilt. I’m thinking of making a form fitting cover out of the quilt. It shouldn’t be too hard to do but it will take some planning to make sure it fits right.

TIP: The Harbor Freight Tool company regularly has Moving Blankets on sale. They come in handy for lots of stuff - even a quick vocal booth/area.
