In praise of JimmyM

You don't disagree with Jimmy because he's wrong, you disagree with Jimmy because you're a glutton for punishment and you prefer to learn your lessons the hard (expensive) way. :D

Cheers to the Alpha Dog of Talkbass!

Gotta add yet another +1 for JimmyM, although I'm not sure I've got the time to wade through this whole thread. I'd much rather be reading 200+ replies written BY Jimmy than ABOUT Jimmy.

Still, Jimmy might have trouble pumping out that many messages in less than 24 hours. That's like, um, at least ten replies per... well, never mind, that's well within his range. Of course just about any of us could write a message every six minutes, but how many could do so and still be worth listening to? Only someone who's been there, done that, got a closet full of t-shirts and the stones to call Chuck Norris on unwarranted douche-baggery if he ever shows up and starts spewing nonsense about tube amps...

oh no...not chuck norris! even at 90 years old he can kick my ass ;)

people think i pump out a lot of stuff on here, but really, most of my replies are one or two lines, sometimes only a handful of words. not that hard. anyone can do it...i'm just the only one not embarrassed by it ;)

Jimmy is a good guy. :)

You have to be really carefull here. There is a fixed rating system developed by the NAQRO, my radio club for rating the guys...

From top to bottom:

RGG or Really Great Guy, Great Guy for short; the great guy is as good as it gets. The Great Guy can be counted on when the chips are down and is always there to pull your sorry ass out of the muck as you are just slipping below the surface. He's always got your back. A great Guy will take a bullet for you. He can always be counted on to do the right thing or help out when you need an extra hand. There are very few RGG's in one's life. All the best Side Kicks are RGG's.

GG or Good Guy, not quite as cool as the Great Guy, but are far more common. When the chips are down, he might miss the big save, but he will at least make an attempt; which is ok sometimes. He will always appologize when he didn't quite step up to the plate far enough; and when you get out of jail you will forgive him and say, You'll get it right the next time because you're a Good Guy. The good guy will always be there and may accidently take a bullet for you while he's ducking for cover. When a show of force is need the Good Guy will add numbers to your side, but if the riot breaks out he's likely to be wiping a spilled beer off himself, still trying to get her phone number or talking on the phone. When you think he's got your back, he probably already went looking for the car keys, thinking its best to have the motor running. The good guy usually says the right stuff and will be supportive and have good ideas. For the most part a Good Guy is an good type of buddy to have around and is as much as anybody could really ask for.

MG or Marginal Guy, is what most guys usually end up being. He talks the good line, always has an idea up his sleave that will get at least one of you arrested. He's the buddy who shoots his mouth off by saying "Yeah keep that S*** Up and my Buddy Bob here is going to kick your a**". When the crap starts flying he's already heading to the bathroom or the car to catch up with the good guy who has already started the car. He's always up for a roadtrip as long as you're buying and is the first to help you find your wallet when it is time to pay. He will drive to the Liquor Store using your car, your wallet and will help you drink your beer. His favorite saying is, "You buy I'll Fly".

He's Three Feet Below Whale S***.
He's the guy who plans all the big road trips and then gets busy after you have made all the financial commitments. Is sure to let you down at every instance, has injuries when work needs to be done, never has a buck in his pocket. Total Leach, will never stand up for anything, is only after his own welfare. Guaranteed to let you down. This guy looks like this guy in the mirror here. In the long run abouut 50% of the people you know fall into this group. He will drive to the Liquor Store using your car, your wallet and total your car while on the way back. You'll go to bail him out and realize he lost your wallet.

You can divide up these 4 groups with sub groups like AGG or almost a great guy. or VGG like Very Good Guy or MMG mildly marginal guy...

WBTFBWS which is like Way Below Three Feet Below Whale Doo.... These sort of sub groups are INSTANTAINIOUS rankings that a guy can SURGE to by doing miraculous stuff or failings.

It could be possible for a RGG to knock up your sister and for a few moments hit WBTFBWS before he tells you, but man, we drove to Vegas last night and I married the bitch... You go Brother and give him a big hug and he buys the beer and everything is cool again. You entertain yourself and friends by coming up with new and fancier sub groups.

It's like WAOY way ahead of you and ROTFLMAOUIPM... it's like adding extra letters to shock your other MG's... :D

BOB

Bob,
Thanks for the clarification.
Hmmm, we're talking about another dead beat musician.
After reading all these complimnets, I'm thinking I don't like the rat ba$+ard anymore.
Who's with me?

(hint this could be the Metallica thread part 2)

BOB

:D

Yeah, but don't forget that I'm just a foreigner. I have a hard time communicating in English in the first place, nuances like that are way above my head. :D

Of course, Jimmy knows this. :smug:

Ya know, this sort of reminds me of the first post I read from JimmyM.

Do you remember your first "JimmyM?"

But the more you experience him, the more you see how good he can be. Sort of like a gin martini.

:D

rotflmao - so, so true

Although I'm more of a dry vodka martini man myself. Shake up some nice frosty Belvedere, lean close and whisper "vermouth", drop in a few blue-cheese stuffed olives and enjoy.

Hey, we could start a contest : who can come up with the best recipe for a "JimmyMtini"? Here's a starter : take four tubes of Ampeg, a shot of VT, and two pickled pickups, pedal vigorously and serve with a side of string cheese...
