Inconceivable?

Not sure why, but I always assumed Ashdown was like other bass amps, with not much gain.
However, there is this:

Head Of Doom - Geezer Butler

GBHOD-large.jpg

all-tube combo
2x10" Eminence LF drivers
Faital HF driver
size & weight of a Fender Rumble
power not a big consideration, 20 - 50 Watts would be enough

enough gain to take the paint off the walls

The old adage I still find to be true is you can have light and loud, small and loud or, small and light. So, you’re going for small and loud. With the tube component added to the equasion you choices are limited. The Ampeg PF 20T and PF 50T are by far your best choice for heads. Pair them with any 2x10 perhaps one of those Ampeg mini SVTs.

@Killed_by_Death: shhh.. we're working in a 100W version of the Traynor YBA300, it's much lighter and smaller... aptly named the YBA100. ETA? Not sure as we're just on the first revision of the chassis. We 'may' be showing it at NAMM in January. That is all
as a Torontonian and one of the 1st purchasers of the SB 200H head, keep me posted

I typically play 'all tubes,' with a YBA-1 or a YBA200 but have been recently playing with an SB110 1x10 combo. I've used it for smaller acoustic style gigs (the SB series amps all similar to each other). A small 100W tube head is what I've personally been waiting for for years (from Traynor). That should take care of almost everything else.

nice.

..I have a DNBX112 extension cab, and am so tempted to get a 2nd, having a single/double stack as an option would be just perfect for me using either the SB200 H or my Orange TB500.......that SB115 combo is just about the most versatile unit.....I have rented it a few times for different gigs....plenty loud, light, sounds great...if they made a 500 w version that would support an extension cab they would have a killer rig

How do you get overdrive at low volume with no gain knob?

Wait, they've got a CTM-30 (discontinued) & a CTM 30 Little Stubby.
You've got the Little Stubby?

It’s just a grindy little amp. I bought mine used. The previous owner even put in “cleaner” power tubes, but it is still very grindy and gainy. I actually use it as a practice amp at home, but I have played out with it was well. I have a matching Ashdown 112 cabinet with no horn and it pairs well with the head

The CTM-30 is 'just a grindy little amp' if you run your bass with the instruments volume on full. If you back off the instruments volume control the sound becomes quite clean. The gain in the preamp is such that it can be overloaded by a strong input signal, so the instruments volume control acts as a gain control. This works well for me using a passive Pbass with a 62' PU. I imagine that it might not work very well with instruments delivering a weaker signal.
