Incubus Bassist

Well I dont't think Dirk could play circles around Ben to be honest.I've seen very little improv from Dirk and Ben is a great jammer.Dirk was technically better but Ben grooves really well.Doubt Dirk was great with a pick either. It also seemed to me any kind showing off the band would do together Dirk would normally just slap real fast.I still love his lines though.

Very little improve from Alex :eyebrow: ? How many shows have you seen with Alex at bass? I've easily seen 15 shows with him at bass, and at every show they was always a big improv/jam part that Alex normally instigated. You could tell he was leading the entire jam just like it was in a jazz club. As far as the other stuff goes, it's not even worth debating. Alex was a finger/slap player and could care less about the pic. He also played fretless and was responsible for the majority of the bass grooves for every song. There's absolutley no comparison of talent between the two. Kenney is just a "yes man," and the reason he's in the band.

I wouldn't say so.Of all the DVDs and stuff I've downloadd I've seen very little improv to be honest. In fairness I love Dirk but I'm sick of people ragging on Ben.He is a great player

I think the problem is you're going off the DVD's. I have oneof the DVDs, and the majority of the bass playing was editted in on parts of several songs, plus, Alex got very little face time. Live is a very different story...I was very disappointed with the DVD. I'm not really ragging on Ben per se, he's very good at being the bass player they want him to be, but he's just not the same ability as Alex and Ben even admitted that in one article I read about him.

Well I am going on DVDs but I've also seen other stuff from the net which isn't edited.I don't wanna get in a big argument with you Halftooth cos I've seen your name around here so I know your not a fool!!But I just think Ben enhances alot of the older songs now.But they wouldn't be such great songs in the first place if it hadn't been for Alex.Oh and what a tone did he have!!
