Double Bass inexpensive mike recommendation?

my Realist packed up. I need to get through a pile of gigs for the rest of our big band season, need to do something inexpensive for my EM-1. I'm really trying to keep the cost down, wanting to replace the bass at the end of the season, need to save for that.

I had a good emergency experience with a EV ND757 and some rubber bands last night. The ND757 is pretty bulky, though.

I have an H-clamp on the way, and I've seen thread references to Audix D4s, I can pull a used Audix D2 or D4 for under $100. Any other recommendations in that price range? Ability to use it for things other than URB is a plus...

the Audix D4 is a good microphone at that price. every sound man I've met was happy with it.
I know that others mics are better, but the prices are others too...

Depending on the venue, I sometimes use an Audix D2 instead of my pickup on my Eberle ply. In the past I have used SM57's, 58's and other dynamic mic's in that same price range eg: Peavey PVM 45r.
To my ears the Audix sounds more like my bass, is less prone to feedback and has a fuller sound. So far I have had no desire to upgrade to anything more expensive.

It's a little hard to see from this angle, but is the sock bundled up against the body, and the mic leaning against it? Does it stay fairly stationary that way?

the sock is between the mic and the tailpiece to prevent rattling. The mic is kinda floating there. The weight of the cable keeps it pretty stationary. Definitely NOT touching the top.
