ok so I know the best placement of pedals is what my ear tells me is the best. I get it, really do and I have messed around with it for a while. I also have ready a gazzillion threads on it here.

I am just looking for some outside input.
Part of my problem is that I have a bunch of very different basses that I play and sometimes I also play through different cabs and/or amps.

so to try and keep it fairly straightforward.

usa pbass deluxe (active pickups)

pedals to choose from:

1. MXR M80 (i like to leave it on all the time as I dig the eq and use the distortion when I want a little grit) and I don't really use the DI

2. Zvex Mastotron

3. EBS Multicomp

4. Boss CE-2 chorus

5. boss tuner

they go into a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and then into Bagend 1x15 & Eden 210 cabs.

I like my compression after dirt and filters and before modulation. And I personally like my tuner last so I can mute my whole chain even though most like it first.

And if you aren't using the MXR's DI then I'd go to my normal arrangement of placing dirt pedals in order of increasing clipping.

So MY arrangement would likely be exactly the way you've listed them:

1. MXR M80
2. Zvex Mastotron
3. EBS Multicomp
4. Boss CE-2 chorus
5. boss tuner

Just my $0.02

I agree with Jared on this chain except that I like fuzz before overdrive (since overdrive is usually supposed to simulate a dirty amp, and running fuzz into that sounds pretty good IMO)

So I would go:
Mastotron -> M80 -> Multicomp -> CE-2 -> Tuner

I'd try this at 1st:

BASS > tuner > comp > m-80 > mastotron > chorus > AMP

And take it frome there. The first experiment I would go for is placing the com after the mastotron.

I have rearranged my order of setup. I now use the parallel out of the m80 and go into the high input of amp bypassing the rest of my effects except for my comp. and then run the normal out to the rest of my chain. Goes as follows.

1. Boss Tu2

2. Boss Lmb3 (w/Steve Mckinley "thunder mod")

3. Mxr m80 (parallel out to H/gain)(Normal out to M84)(di out to board)

4. Mxr m84

5. Mxr m234

6. Boss Bf3

7. Mooer orange 90

8. Ibanez WD7 wah

9. ISP decimator into L/gain input

( 10. 11. In blend wet/dry effects loop set 85% wet)

10. Zoom b2 w/ expression pedal

11. Boss DD7 w/ tap tempo

Hartke HA3500

It has taken me a while but this is how I'm digging it and my rig responds well too it..
