Instrument Forums and Collective Personalities

I also remember the Lakland board as well, I remember thinking the internet wasn't even around that long at the time and how it devolved so quickly to that mess. That site alone made me value moderators!
My post was talking about the mechanics of group dynamics. Governance and government were only mentioned as an example of a type of group dynamic affecting individuals. I think the TB rule on avoiding political discussion is about not advocating for a particular opinion, party, or agenda -or criticizing any of that - rather than speaking about the practical psychological and social aspects of governance that need (or at least should) be considered when dealing with groups and individuals.
So I seriously doubt anything in my previous post could be considered remotely crossing the line as far as the rules here are concerned. No nation, political position, or party agenda was advanced or criticized. If I thought my earlier comment or this one did, I wouldn’t have posted it.
No, no, my comment was supposed to be a joke because you were literally talking about politics (e.g. governance)! I thought the emoji would help, but it didn't. Oops!

I remember my first travel in english language bass forums has started by a newsgroup named Alt.Guitar.Bass. There were some very nice and opened people (remember specifically the lecompte familly), and some very NOT nice; then continued by ebassit.com; then Dudepit (very short time on this one), then Harmony central, Talkbass. I have followed some of them in parrallel. There were nice people everywhere. (Or people that my mind stamped like "nice") and less to VERY less nice too. But finally the more compliant to my expectation about a nice place is TB. And i'm sure it's not only due to moderation, but also to people that ARE this forum. Moderation (Thanks !) helps to keep jerks out of sight, and so nice people have more room to express and share.
They made the mistake of having a politics subforum. The problem there is what goes on in the politics forums has a nasty habit of spilling out into the other forums. This is true for a lot of forums (well, all of them, if I'm being honest) that feature politics and/or religious subforums.
They had to have a politics subforum because Open Jam had become a politics forum by default and people wanted separation. But that's not what killed HC.
I very much think different instruments attract different personalities. And it becomes fairly apparent once you start thinking of instruments more in terms of the function they serve and the roles they mostly play in the larger music landscape rather than just the instrument itself. The beauty of music is that there’s comfortable roles for both the introverts and the extroverts to take on. And yes, there will always be exceptions. But I think, as a rule of thumb, it holds up pretty well.
Although I play other instruments I don’t consider myself an “____ist” of any instrument other than bass guitar because that’s the role (i.e. playing the low notes) I mainly want to fulfill when it comes to playing music.

It's a chicken egg question though. Like, I play bass because in 1986 I asked my Dad for a guitar and, thinking my uncle had stored one there before college and never came back for it, my Dad went to the basement; five minutes later, he came back up ... with a crappy little Kent bass from the late 1960s. Then I saw Tony Levin on the So tour and decided I was happy being the bassist. On the other hand, while I may not be a true introvert, I do resemble the stereotypical bassist--a subjective category for sure, but I'm told it applies to me--in other ways. If I played guitar instead, would I have turned into THAT guy?
