Double Bass Interesting results with Superflexibles on the EUB

I received a gently used set of Superflexibles last night. I slapped them on my NS CR5M. I have to say that I am very happy with the initial findings.

I had newish weich spiro E and A and mostly shot flat chromesteel D and G before. I have no idea what the B string is. I think it is a Helicore. It is shorter and seemingly specifically designed for the NS. It sounds OK. I left it on there.

These strings feel like spirocores but have a little more tub to the sound. They do decay a little faster, but they don't have the twanginess of spirocores that I just can't stand.

The most interesting finding is that the piezo PUs sound MUCH better than they did before. The sound is much fuller and more natural sounding. I can't really explain this one, but it is definitely true.

I really like these strings. They aren't mentioned very much, but if you consider that they are a comparatively inexpensive string, you have to like them. I am happier now than I have been with the NS.

I may even like them enough to try them on my DB.

I've used a Superflex E & A along with Obligato D & G on my hybrid Christopher for about a year now and like the combination.

I'm still going to try something different next go around, though. Still haven't got the manditory $1000 worth of strings in the drawer yet.

Chas, are you using a full set of five of the Superflex? Do you prefer them on the lower notes as Mike says, or are they equally pleasing to you across the set?

I have them on EADG. My B is a helicore, I think. I think it is one of those short ones made for NS. It sounds fine. I may buy a superflex B one of these days. Lemur has them.

I personally like them on the D and as well. The NS can be a little tinny sometimes. These seem to tame that a bit. Plus, they are really meaty under the fingers and stiff (which is odd, having the name and all) they make the bass feel a little more substantial.
