I've been told that Facebook will leave you alone as long as you don't express certain political ideals and don't indulge in racist or homophobic or other hate language.

If everyone at Talkbass were a moderator, we've have tons of people policing the place. Besides, what gets your page pulled is when someone flags it. As long as nobody posts crap about their politics or social issues, and as long as nobody tries to recruit people into anarchist militias, we should be good.

And you've changed my mind: forty-two is now my new message. I'll have to rewrite the book! Damn.

Actually, I'm a pretty boring, staid, conventional fellow.

When I wrote my second flamethrower book, I tried to get a report on flamethrowers from the U.S. Army that was written in 1919. I had to file a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request, which was denied.

When you file a FOIA request, they do a background check.

I still wonder what they found that would make them think it was dangerous for me to have access to 100-year-old information...

You're closer to the truth than you know.

I was born in a foreign country; I've lived all over the world; I have no visible means of support (I live next door to my elderly parents in one of their houses and take care of them in exchange for not paying rent); I applied for a job with the CIA; I write books about weapons and explosives; I'm unmarried; I correspond with a Colonel in the Russian army who's an expert on WMD; and I buy tons of books on weaponry.

And my brother, who lives next door to me, buys tons of books on airliners.

You better believe I'm on a list. I'll bet I'm on about seventeen of them.

Everyone on Facebook can post to public pages already. No need to let everyone have the password to the account to achieve your goal of having everyone contribute to the page.

Letting everyone have the password will direct everything exactly the opposite of what you want to achieve.

Falling in love leads people to do stupid things. IME/IMO, you don't want to be in love with that idea. :atoz:

Actually, it's not up to me. It's up to Kyle, who started the page, and he agrees with you.

However, he wants to deputize some readers here as moderators.

What I'm going to do is ask Talkbass if they'd be willing to send out one mass e-mail to every member here, alerting them to the Facebook page for the book that this forum created. That way they can contribute.

I've looked around at some Facebook pages that are super elaborate, so I'm hoping that there are lots of creative people here who can make this thing a real attention getter.

I don't even know how it works yet. You can post links, likes, photos, and all that jazz, so I'm hoping people will really contribute and make it a winner.

The problem is alerting everyone to it.

If not, everyone should paste the link to the FB group in their signature. And we can start the "Ghosts and Ballyhoo club" here also! :D

Or we could all volunteer to PM as many people here as we can, and ask them to PM as many people as they can.

Talkbass seems pretty stoked about the book. I'm in the process of talking with the publisher's marketing department right now, and I still have to take one more photo. The book will be going to the printer by the end of September, so we have a while yet.

Just so you know, this is probably the fastest that a major book by an unknown author has been put out by a major publisher. It's pretty amazing.

Yeah, I am amazed. Feels like just yesterday that you told us you were going to do it. It's incredible!

I am sure TB will be willing to help out as much as they can, I for one am excited as hell about it!

Sign me up. I'm all about organized chaos!

Tom already has my email (fortunately I'm not the..er..enthusiastic fella who has caused Tom to load his sidearm) so I'll contact him later today as well as Kyle. I'm late for work.

But I'm not stressing about it. See Tom, you're already doing good and the book isn't even out.

Just stumbled on this thread, still working on the first part and I intend to read every post, but I wanted to say thanks to Mr. Wictor for providing most likely the most interesting thread I've ever seen on Talkbass, if not any message board.
