Interviewing Bassists Stories Pt. 3

First off, I would Like to apologize for resurrecting an old thread. I recently came into page one of this looking for a mind numbing read to put myself to sleep. Little did I know I would develop a bit of an addiction costing me 3 nights of sleep.

After browsing talkbass off and on for going on three plus years now, mostly regarding reviews on expectant purchases, I finally registered on site simply to say thank you Tom for this wonderful read. I picked up playing bass twenty years ago last spring and after much frustration with both the music scene and personal limitations there was so much in what you spoke about in these last three threads that really hit home.

I have always been horrid with names, It took me a bit to realize whom both your self and Mr. Thunes actually were even though I grew up reading your work in Bass Player, and a huge fan of all of Mr. Zappa's work. Lately I've been struggling with the fact that my hands are no longer what they used to be. With a combination of arthritis and carpel tunnel I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that I most likely will not be able to play any more within the next ten to fifteen years. Originally I was having a hard time accepting this realization, but after reading your acceptance of loosing your ability to play I've decided instead of sulking and moping about it, play more now whilst I still can. After all whats the worst that can happen? Being satisfied with my musical career (what may or may not come of it) and a book?

To make a long story short;

Thank you Mr. Wictor for your stories.

IMHO Tom you have nothing to apologize for....
I agree! It's not as if the subject matter was aliens from another galaxy. But then maybe that clown who harrassed Tom is proof that extra-terrestials stumble around among us. I'm disappointed though, that they are less enlightened than I expected of an civilization that has mastered space travel.

The rest of that quote is, "then beat you with experience."
I just happened upon this thread the other day. Sort of weird to read something four years later. I remember Tom and many of his interviews in BP magazine, especialy the Scott Thunes one. What a riveting post! I'm still trying to figure how it all worked out. Long time lurker first time poster so I hope I'm not breaking any rules. I just felt compelled to respond to this man's story. Thanks! P.S. Does the saga continue?
