I just got an IoDock (LE) and it works fine. I was concerned about the amazon reviews too, but most of them are old. I have the newest 30 pin dock ipad and it works....but it does have to be docked 'just right'. Meaning that you have to insert it kind of firmly for it to get it's connection and I really don't understandy why it is so sensitive.

Rip, I think I have an idea but, would you mind telling exactly what your chain is for output? If I understand, you're going out of the headphone jack for the device, presumably with a cable that has a 1/4" jack (or adapter on the end) to a direct box, to the board? Just that simple?

I've dabbled with this type of stuff previously with a Windows laptop using the AmpegSVX software. When I tried, I was still using a stage rig so that I could hear, but I'm interested in going amp-less with an idevice - just want to make sure I understand what you fellas are using to output the sound for those that are running this as more than a practice tool.

Edit: With that in mind, what are some of you using for an IEM setup? I would assume that something like a Rolls PM50 (55) would allow you to go amp-less, use IEM's and still hear the rest of the band. What are y'all using?

I thought about sharing here what is possible with Jamup XT Pro + Audiobus + Focusrite iTrack with my PBDDI (bypassed) as a DI between my Ric and the mic channel in the iTrack. Recorded on MT-DAW on my iPad1:

You will always hear your band as IEM can isolate 25-30dB at best.

I was nervous about the Griffin because it's vertical, and it looks like it might fall over on stage.

The Alesis control surface looks nicer, and the I/O looks nice. Does it not fit/work properly with an iPad2? It's now available for $149.

Or should I hobble along with an adaptor connected to the headphone jack for now? :hmm:

The IO Dock works with the iPad 2 perfectly. You may not want pay attention to the amazon reviews ( they're old ). My IO Dock works really well, including the midi.

The keyboard player for my funk band uses that Alesis dock with Sound Tank. Looks like it works really good and sounds great, but he's always futzing with the volume knob between songs. I don't know anything about Sound Tank... I suspect he just doesn't have levels set right?

or how about this... i know that for marketing purposes they want to continue to say, " the new iPad is now .002 millimeters slimmer than the previous iPad." You know what ..... no one cares about how slim it is... to me slimmer means easier to break.

i say have the thing to be a little more thick and sturdy and give us two usb jacks an in port and an out port and a fire wire port and scrap the 30 pin / lightning port and put in a power connector port for charging.

wouldnt that get rid of a mountain of problems....
and being thicker would allow for more battery.
and pluging the thing in would allow for those usb port to be powered 2.0 ports.

It will never happen on an iDevice as they want integrated headphones/ mic for FaceTime and such. They will keep the mic/ headphone interface as it is. Regarding USB, it will be nice with USB port, but my guess is that it will not happen because with USB support the iDevice will be more like a Mac.
The lightning port is not bad if they keep to it, but I wish they used the same geometry as on a Mac.
Apple will not change the design for a minority as us.... Well just like IK multimedia.....
