Iowa Bassists! Assemble!

So how is everyone doing? Here in Cedar Rapids/Marion/Hiawatha metro we took a pretty good hit, but are digging out. My neighborhood all came together and helped clear brush, fix a few things, and had some really nice cookouts. Very midwestern.

As of this time, we have power in Marion, it’s still hit and miss; my folks don’t have it yet and they are about 3-4 miles from me. I don’t have my internet working as the lines were snapped by falling limbs, but I feel lucky we have power.

Hope everyone else is ok. As long as no one was hurt, it’s just stuff and an inconvenience.

I've been following the crop damage. Not wonderful.

Not really sure about the crop damage, I don’t get out of the city too often, but I’ve heard lots of farmers will have to use insurance and total their harvest.

As I said the cities are pretty roughed up, but they will be cleaned, repaired, slapped on the butt and sent back into the game soon. You may destroy a building, but you won’t kill the owners resolve that easy.

Just a waiting game now.

Yeah I'm south of the Cedar Rapids / Marion corridor, here in North Liberty. We got hit hard, but NOTHING like CR did. Today the news stated that CR had winds in excess of 115 to 140 mph. That's the equivalent of an EF-2 & EF-3 tornado.

Yep I heard winds of an f2, damage of an f4. Sums it up about right.

Have you heard of a female singer named Jen Lisenbee from NL? Pretty popular in the area.

Haven’t heard of her, I’ll need to investigate. I’m currently doing small recording gigs for Dave Paris @ the Artisans Sanctuary in Marion. I also play for Jim Coates and his son Andersen Coates. Haven’t played out at all this year. I’ve been a little busy working with Rich Wagor @ Dick’s Bass Sales & Rentals in CR. I build and repair/mod Basses.

I know Rich, great upright player. I didn’t know he had a bass business. Is it specifically for double bass? Or electric bass as well.

Jen is a powerhouse pop singer. I’m loosely forming a side project with her and a couple of other peeps from CR to cover holes in my main project calendar.

The names I’m familiar with, but can’t place them. Id probably know them if I saw them.

You might know John Hall. He teaches music at Kennedy, plays with a great funk group in CR. (Funk Stop maybe?) and is an amazing player. I lent him a fretless Jaco jazz for a solo project he was recording when I was touring, 5-6 years ago. That bass has never sounded better lol.

Rich is still at Griggs, he recently started his own website. He’s buying/selling uprights. He’s also dabbling in electrics, that’s where I come in. Rich also has an FB page, Dick’s Bass Sales and Rentals..... don’t let the prices scare you off. He’s more than willing to deal. My FB page is Flathead Basses, I’ve worked on a lot of Rich’s bargain brand bass experiments , we’re starting to produce some more top shelf parts basses with my spin on them. Eventually I’ll cross over to upright repair with Rich, that’s the direction I want to pursue.

Also let me know when you gig with Jen, I’d really like to come out and hear you two.
