iPad 2 and Forums

I don't like the app. So what. I prefer to use the normal web interface.
I am using the Safari browser. When I am entering replies in the forums, I get logged out somewhat randomly.
I'll get several sentences into a reply, then BAM! Logged out!
I am using the touch keypad, not an external kb. Anyone else having this problem?

-----
Edit: I was wrong.
The Safari browser appears to crash.
When I restart, I also must login again.

This entire reply is edited now that I know more.

Yes, I have set the box to stay logged in.
I've been posting through the day fine.
Then, a few minutes ago, I am trying to write a response about an ill-fitting case.
I got bounced FOUR TIMES.
The Safari browser session seems to crash.
I am typing, then BAM - out to iPad's home screen.
When I restart Safari, I must login again.
Since this happened 4 times in 10 minutes, I am certain that I checked the box to stay logged in.
But it seems more of an issue with Safari crashing.
I do not get this behavior on any other forum though.
I wish I could navigate with the iPad app better, but I prefer the normal web page.
Anyhow, very frustrating.

I'm having the same exact problem! It's not a talkbass issue but an issue with your devices software.

I took my iPad 2 to the genius bar and they ran a diagnostic. They found Safari was crashing as a result of an issue between apps on the iPad. They couldn't identify exactly which apps were the problem, but the genius did say this;

The Apple store has hundreds of thousands of apps available from just as many developers, it's like a sandbox full of 5 year olds, sooner or latter their going to stop getting along.

The Apple genius did a factory restore on my iPad but the problem still persists. Crashes during TB replies is soooo annoying. Today its working great, but tomorrow might be another story.

Good luck with your fix.

YAY!!!!! Sorry for you, but glad it's not me!
I should say that this only happens when entering text in the forums here - no other formus.
When it first started, Safari crashed several times when I was trying to respond to just a single thread.
I posted here, and David pointed out that I may not have checked the "Keep logged in" box.
So I made sure I checked that box, and lo and behold, I was not kicked out for hours.
Then again, it just started. Safari crashed over and over and over. I was here for hours without problem, then it just crashed 4-5 times when I was trying to respond to a thread.
I am guessing...
Maybe there's come content - like an ad - on the page that's causing it.
So far, this is what I know:
It only happens on TalkBass
It only happens when I am entering text in a reply to a thread
Safari crashes, and I need to login again

I hope we can figure this out.
Now that I know it's not just me, I am more interested.
I wonder if I can find some Safari logging on this iPad??!!!
Sure would be nice to get a stack trace of the crash and compare where we bailed.

Just fyi, I often use my iPad and Safari for TB and I never get logged out, nor does Safari crash.

Safari crashes when entering a response in a thread.

I've gone several hours without crashing, then I'll get several back-to-back crashes.

Thanks for responding. Please keep this in mind and report back if you have problems.

Cheers!

i have been running the talkbass app on an ipad, ipad2, iphone 3gs and iphone 4 since it first came out. I have not experienced these issues at all. like has been stated. It sounds like a restore on your ipad should resolved your issue.

I appreciate that, but....

I'm NOT talking about the TalkBass app.

I'm not a fan of the app - just doesn't work the way I like to work.

The other guy already did a restore, and Safari still crashes.

Why is it that we whine and cry (myself included) when we have to (gasp) reboot a Windows PC? But when a "genius" wants to do a factory restore on our Apple, we say 'Hey, wow, cool. Go for it!' Another topic, sure. I'm just a cranky UNIX guy who's used to seeing uptimes well over a year.

Anyhow, thanks for the reply. If you ever try Safari (for an extended period) and have this Safari crash, let me know.

Cheers!

Before the TB app came out, I was using safari...no issues. That was an earlier release of IOS though. So maybe something is "broken" in the newer one.

Yep, that's my guess. Something along those lines. Like I said, I can go for hours with no problems, then BAM!
I'd bet that there's something in the ad content - I dunno, some js or flash or whatever. Something like that. I do not like having no access to log files or stack traces.
Anyhow, only a couple of us at this point with the problem.
Cheers!

I'm using the latest release of iOS 5. No issues with Safari and TalkBass, replying to threads or otherwise.

Again, this is NOT a problem with Safari's primary operations and NOT a problem with an version of Talkbass.

This is an issue from corruption which affects the stability of the browser in text input mode caused by whatever combination of apps on the device not working nice together.

This is why the problem is not experienced by everyone's device.
