IPA's official "What beer you got?" thread. Beer snobs in here!

Congrats on the first brew. Even if you royally screw up every step, you'll most likely end up with drinkable beer in the end, so don't sweat it too much.

Homebrewers usually use 5.5 gallon cornelius "corny" style kegs that were retired from the soda industry when they moved away from pre-mixed soda to shipping just bag-in-a-box syrup. They are perfect for a 5 gallon batch (or splitting 10+ gallons), and have a large lid that allows for easy filling and cleaning.

How exactly do you keg home-brew? BTW, I'm going to be making my first beer around August 1rst.

My process is:

- put the fermenter up on a table the day before to let the trub settle back down
- sanitise the keg + all the plumbing bits with Starsan solution
- flush the empty keg with CO2 to avoid oxidation - CO2 is heavier than air so it will push all the air out
- syphon the beer from the fermenter into the keg avoiding pulling trub down (I use an auto-syphon even with a conical, it just seems to work easier for me)
- close up the keg (remember to sanitise the lid too)
- put the keg on gas at ~10psi above the target pressure overnight, give it a couple of shakes every now and then to help the gas dissolve

It's pretty simple - like most things you just need to go slow and methodical the first couple of times you do it.

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit

Mike

I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't do the Satsuma Wit. I was going to send a few out to Maki, but I just can't subject anyone to that. I found it rather dreadful.

Went to Acme Oyster House. The softshell crab and chargrilled oysters were awesome. However, the only tap choices are Bud Light, Blue Moon and Abita Amber. I think tomorrow will call for some nice IPA's or Pale Ales.

Awww, c'mon. The Abita Amber goes so well with the chargrilled oysters!

Well, babysitter cancelled last night. Ended up home and having an Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit and RedHook Longhammer IPA. Thinking about driving to Abita Brewpub for lunch today since we don't have any 4th plans.

Damn, closed for 4th, just checked...
