Nope. Not yet. I've not come across a style that beats Sam Adams in any of their styles. Keep in mind that I was brewing for Sam Adams a few years ago, so I may be a bit biased. ;)

Sam Adams that is about 3 seconds old cannot be beat! :p

Yeah Avery makes two double IPAs, Maharaja is the big dog and Dugana is meant to be a more drinkable double IPA.

Yup! Honey provides an alcohol spike and dries the beer out. Without it or some other simple sugar, my IPA brews turn out a bit too thick bodied for my liking. Even at lower mash temps. I like my IPAs to be deceptive. A handful of these will make your average matilda bay wine cooler drinker black out. :p

Dry is a good way to put it. I struggled to find the right terminology the other night. It certainly doesn't turn a beer into a chick drink as one might think.

Nah though it might sound a bit froufrou. :D

Anyone try Oskar Blues' Gubna double IPA? Its has pretty insane hop levels. I swear at a certain temperature it tastes like onions. :eek: Goes real well with spicy and/or meaty dishes.

Yeah... not reading threads before I post is sort of a shortcoming of my participation on these forums. :rolleyes::D

Old Chub eh? One is good but they are too thick and syrupy for my taste. Gubna is where it's at. Even better than Gordons. :hiding:

I had to run over to New Orleans for a few hours today. While I was there I swung by a market and picked up a 6er of Bayou Teche Brewing's LA31 that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Looking forward to that one. Also picked up a 6er of Covington Brewhouse's Bayou Bock.

I was really looking forward to picking up the Abita Satsuma seasonal, but got a call this afternoon that my favorite local beer store in Mobile got some in stock. I hope to pick some up tomorrow, along with a little more Abita Andygator and OBP2. I'm still stocked on winter beers. Need to move those out for some summer-time libations.

Well, had a blow-out dinner party (if there is such a thing) with my uncle, his partner, my wife, and a friend over last weekend. Le Fin du Monde, Chimay, and Fat Tire abounden. I forget from time to time that I can't drink the 9-12% beers the same way I drink say a Summit IPA or something. This week I picked up a Schell's sampler 12 pack. The Pils is way better than it should be, and I'm looking forward to the stouts in the box.

Hey, I'm seeing RedsFan75 above mentioning Mt. Carmel brews. Is that local Cincy beer? I'm from NKY originally, and have been very happy to see Morlein's newer output. Check out hoperatives blog. Met the couple who does it at Florence's Party Town wine/beer tasting last year-nice folks.

Oooohhhh Fat Tire. That's one we're still not able to get in this area. The local distributor is working on it, and they've done a good job of picking up craft brews that locals are asking for. Hell, just a year ago I wasn't able to buy anything in my single-bottle collection locally.

The wife was kind enough to bring home a mixed case of beer from Costco. Deschutes had a rep there peddling beer.
Some of the offerings were: Cascade ale, Greenlakes organic, and Mirror pond pale.
I have to say, really enjoyed these beers. Especially during this time of the year in AZ.

Here is something for the beer geeks. You can now become a certified beer expert. It's called a 'Cicerone.' Check out www.cicerone.org. There is a sample test that you can take to test your knowledge of beer. I scored 10 out of 10. Lemme know what you guys think.
