Ipod or Zune? Your opinion

iTunes has a lot of things I don't like.

If you move a file or rename it or add track/artist info, iTunes will eventually pick up on things and create a duplicate entry in its list. Culling the 'file not found' files is tedious and annoying since you can't sort them all into the same group.

It's a memory hog. I've had my systems slow to a crawl because of outdated iTunes software.

It takes window priority whenever it does something such as detect an update or a iPod being plugged in, even if you're running a maximized window.

All in all, a dir full of well-maintained folders and Windows Media Player seems to be lighter and quicker, without the hassle of iTunes' PAY ATTENTION TO ME complex.

I've been using iTunes for at least 5 years now and have never encountered any of the problems you mention. No problem at all to be honest.
I voted iPod. Maybe I'm a bit biaised, but IMO iPods are really great. Especially the latest iPod touch, which also allows to go on internet, play games, take/store pics, etc.

What OS are you using ?
If its mac then of course you wont have any problems, itunes was designed for mac OS hardware and drivers.

On Windows it's not the OS itunes hates, it certain audio/video drivers along with certain processors, namely the celeron, and Pentium Northwoods core.

I've had my 3+ year old iPod on multiple trips across California on a motorcycle, to the gym all the time, when jogging, otherwise abusing it. Works just fine. Kind of annoyed as I want a 160Gb one but can't justify the reason to get a new one as long as this old one just works and works.

Same, except mine's 4+ years old. It has been all over the country, as I travel for work. Gets constant use.
Starting to look a little beat up, but still works fine.

Mines an 80 gig "classic", I'd like a 160... but I'm not quite full...

I'm currently in the market too. I have way too much music to fit it all onto one device so shuffling from external HD to player is necessary. Also, all my music is downloaded as FLAC files and converted to WAV.

I have been afraid of Itunes b/c I don't want to convert all my music over. From what I have seen the Zune doesn't support WAV.

Would you all suggest the Sandisk in this case? All I need is a music player. I can do w/o all the extra bells and whistles.

Lucky you. We have iTunes at my work and at my bf's and everyday something goes wrong and I'm tired of hearing about it.

I have a zune player and a zune account .

For $16.80 a month I get to download and use tons of music.

I also get 10 song credits to use to buy music , usually one credit per song .

Sooooo $1.68 a song but I have a trunkload of albums I have downloaded to use , not own , just use.

BtW I typed this on my apple phone that wants to spellcheck zune into zine.

I forgot all about the Zune pass. $14.99 a month (or did it go up?) for all you can stand to download, plus like was said you get to keep 10 songs forever whether or not you have a valid Zune pass or not. So basically the download 'all you can eat' part is $5. Unreal.

because of Apps? So far I've heard about a bloatware librarian system, a product that fails to turn on after being left in the cold, a different caliber of sound quality, and a bigger price tag. I really don't know, to be honest, but if thats what your going to say after several users expressed their issues with the product, I don't know if it is "better".

I've barely heard anything bad about the zune.

I use a Zune. Have used one since '07 and it works great. I had two Ipods previously and both of them were a pain in the butt and froze on me alot. I find the Zune easier to use and the Zune Marketplace has almost everything itunes has. However itunes has more to offer with aps. Also the after-market support for ipod is so much better. There is virtually nothing available for the Zune when it comes dockable devices, cases and other stuff. The Zune is very limited. I would dissagree with the comment that the ipod is a superior product. I don't think it is. It's just better supported in the market.

The Zune HD is great. I have demoed it and I would like to stick with a Zune but my wifes Ipod Touch is really nice and I'm getting tempted to give the Touch a try.

A couple of negative reviews vs. the umpteen millions of them sold, vs comparatively much, much less Zunes sold, and alot of complaints (let's be real, you hear little about Zunes here because so few have them)....it'd be crazy to use this thread as a barometer to sway your opinion. I've seen alot more bias and opinion than cold hard facts.

the cold hard facts are that the people buy them. But I also think the vast majority sticks with Apple on the basis that its the best stocked item across the board in retail areas.

I just got an 8 gig Zune, with a broken click wheel, but even still, I loved my other Zune. I love an iPod Touch even more. MMmm, Wifi.
