Did that change after this most recent preorder? Because there is one now. Regardless, guess I don’t feel like such a fool for missing out then.

I have no idea. I see you are right. I was going by the list of pedals under "Pedals" where there is no Subterrograph. But it's still in the "Shop." Maybe that's a mistake, maybe that means it'll be a regular thing.

Hey faux synth freqs
I’m gonna lower the price of the Polytope I have on the classifieds cause I’m still short and need cash ASAP. Originally listed at $415. Gonna make it $380. Just a heads up to the homies.
This takes the wind outta my sails like you wouldn’t believe but I’ve had so much fun working on these tones and just dropping some bombs on an unsuspecting audience the few times I’ve had the levity to roll this kinda board out. Maybe I can keep the X, really hoping for that. Somehow I fried 2 SubTs whereby only the sub octave/filter/clean works provided the synth voice switches are positioned in a certain way, it’s weird. I’ve been meaning to get with Taylor about it but I don’t have the bread even for a bench fee amd he’s busy! Don’t wanna get in the way of new stuff!

FWIW, my SubT suffered some physical damage back in March, and Taylor was happy/able to help me out with the repair himself! It was a VERY reasonable bench fee, too, if/when you do have some spare dough. Had it back to me about 6 weeks after I put it in the mail. Don't suffer with a broken pedal any longer than you have to! :)

I did a suboctave comparison with the Iron Ether Subterranea and Subterrograph, the 3 Leaf Audio Octabvre MKII and MKIII, and the Broughton Subsonic. (I don't have an OC-2.) I'll share my thoughts on the two Iron Ether pedals so anyone searching this thread in the future can find them.

As many of you know, the Iron Ether Subterranea has its own suboctave sound. It's not another OC-2 clone. It's somewhat gritty (though not to the level of a COG T-16 or Mu-Tron) and has that characteristic bit of synth bleed on the clean circuit. It's a good sound. A rich sound. I'm glad that it is different from the 3 Leaf and Broughton stuff because that means more options (and fun!) for us bass players.

I hear a difference between my Subterranea and Subterrograph, which is not surprising because I know individual Subterranea sound different. I haven't owned as many examples of Subterraneae--yes, that is the official plural form because I've decided it's a first declension Latin noun--as some of you, but I chat regularly with many of the pedal collectors and enthusiasts who frequent this thread; my impression is that the Subterranea has more variance between individual units than any other Iron Ether pedal. Why? I don't know. Perhaps component differences? The human factor in the build? Small refinements to the circuit over time? This particular Subterranea isn't the first to pass through my hands, but I don't recall the nuances of how my previous Subterranea sounded so I cannot speak to all this myself. I just remember liking it lol.

Anyway, in my comparison of these two particular units, the Subterranea had a brighter character while the Subterrograph sounded warmer and fuller. I vastly prefer the Subterrograph. While the difference is clear and undeniable, I could imagine someone preferring the brighter Subterranea if they wanted a more of certain frequencies in their suboctave and synth tone. It would certainly sit differently in a mix and, depending on that mix, could cut through better.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who A/B'ed both of these. Did you hear the same things as me?

Sure! Short answer: they are all good, and the MKII is superior to the MKIII.

Long answer: PM me :) That's probably more effectively because there I can answer questions about my particular musical context and goals without derailing this thread. Plus it's probably poor form to go into a detailed discussion of 3 Leaf and Broughton pedals in the Iron Ether thread.

A sub only switch with the ability to set the sub only level (ala the mk2/mk3 Octobvre) would be a a great addition to the Subterrograph.

The sub octave in the Subterranea is so fluid and connected to your hands.
Personally I really appreciate its ability to trigger a filter in different ways/to different degrees but in this context the best way I can describe my affinity with it is that IMO it’s more fun to use
