Well that sucks. Serves me right, though. One brand is enough for crushed dreams - waited to get that email for a loooooooong time and thought I'd be able to do the preorder. Congrats to those who got one.

I apologize to everybody who got the email but didn't get in in time. I know this is annoying, but things are starting to be available more regularly so rather than waiting 6 months to get the chance to pre-order, and then another 5 months to actually get what you ordered, you'll be seeing much more frequent releases and when you do order, you'll get it much sooner. Ultimately it's going to be a good change, there's just going to be some in-between time where things sell out fast.

Your 4-knob Nimbus is from around 2013 or earlier. I think it was late '14 or early '15 that the Treble knob was added to the standard Nimbus. In 2016 the Special Edition was released and the standard version was redesigned with high-end opamps and generally lower noise, lower distortion, higher headroom. The reverb itself is the same as the older version. The Special Edition adds expression control/stomp/knob that can add expressivity, or do trails bypass or other creative uses.

Also, somewhere in that span, there was a change from through-hole to surface-mount components, right?

The ICs were always surface mount from the beginning, but yep, that was when the passives (resistors/capacitors) changed to surface mount.

I’ve just spent the last couple of hours wiring up a new big board that houses a Nimbus SE, FrantaBit and XD. It works (thankfully) so the dial twiddling can begin in earnest at the weekend. Bonus fluffy carpet content too.
