I'm biased because I'm a total envelope filter junkie, but the XeroD is a killer IE pedal to start with. I've tried a lot of filters and the Xerograph is one of the best envelope filters out there, IMO. (which I realize is personal taste of course.) It instantly became one of my favorite filter pedals, so I ordered a second with this latest preorder.

Don't miss out on connecting an expression pedal either. It's pretty good as a "regular" envelope filter, but @Erithon clued me in to just how amazing that feature is for manual filter sweeps, which is easily my favorite use for the XeroD so far. It's an always on pedal towards the end of my chain so I can always control the filter in real time. SO good!

But like Aguacateojos mentions, don't get discouraged. Taylor builds a LOT of range into his pedals, so they can be a bit fiddly to dial in. Small adjustments can make a big difference in sound. But once you get used to that, Iron Ether pedals have a wide range of usability/sounds available.

I still need to grab an expression pedal to try with all my IE lineup. Just like you mention, range and adjustability was the first thing I noticed with the XD. I could just as easily dial myself out of a sound I wanted and have trouble finding it again as I could accidentally find a new sound I dug. The tweak ability on it is unreal. Still my favorite envelope filter I’ve tried.

A good summary of the tweakability of Iron Ether pedals.

If/when you get around to picking up an expression pedal, I'm a big fan of the Dunlop DVP4 Mini Vol X as an expression. Reliable and built like a tank, and the tension of the travel is adjustable.

I appreciate the recommendation. I’m a fan of Dunlop/MXR stuff. They might not be the best or most unique but they’re solid and reliable. Kinda like Fender; readily available, make the sound they make, and they make it well. I was considering that for expression but didn’t know if the extra cost would be worth it over the Moog EP-3.

I've never tried the Moog expression, but I like the Dunlop because it's small and fits on a tight board where larger expression pedals won't.

(probably should've also mentioned that as well in my previous post. ;))

Oh, I don't own all these pedals. I did at the time of each picture (and I've owned others not pictured as well), but I've long since moved along most of these. I don't keep what I don't need. I just thought it would be a fun way to organize a post.

I mean, as someone who sees his Subterranea as the one pedal to save in the case of a burning pedalboard (what a sad scenario!), I should be rushing to confirm this. But, if the plan is to create some wicked synth sounds, and you aren't stoked at the prospect of hunting for a used Sub/Dub (they are hard to come by, and generally not cheap...), I think an octave pedal + gated fuzz can get you very much into the same ballpark.

The xerograph will join a board that includes the broughton Subsonic and locust star, so I'm stoked!
