Iron Ether Appreciation Society

Well, my PMs only go back to 2015 and the deal must've been done before that. I did find the one where I traded the Xero. Funny enough, I still don't gas for one. Filters aren't really my thing these days but when I do want one, the Joshwah and Prometheus still keep me happy, not to mention I have a C4 when I want things to get real awkward for everyone in the room.

Buuuuuuut...

Since I'm super late to the party again, is there ever going to be another Oxide? Is there any reason it can't be done?
Seems easy enough…I’d be interested.

I sold an Xerograph v.1 for like $125 at some point a long time ago. I regret letting it go more than the price, but I hope whoever bought it got to use it for something cool.

Around 3-4 years ago I scored a Nimbus off reverb for $90, so I guess things work out in the long run. It's made its way to our lead guitarist's board and hasn't moved.

Can someone refresh my memory? Is it a Brassmaster circuit?
The Oxide is a morphing gated
fuzz, allowing the user to seam-
lessly morph between a raucous,
industrial octave fuzz inspired by
the Maestro Bass Brassmaster, to a
modern synthy fuzz with a
pinched, gated sound. It includes a
clean blend to allow extreme
amounts of fuzz without losing low end

Good memory, @davedamage! It is, though with some special Iron Ether treatments. Since you like the Hiero BEAD v3 so much, you'd probably really enjoy an Oxide. The BEAD v3 didn't stick around for me, but it is very good: by far the most tonal options of any Brassmaster clone I've played and also the best low-end. At the end of the day, though, I preferred the clipping voice of the Oxide to that of the BEAD (which my ears found too buzzy and insufficiently snarly—if that makes sense). I find the Oxide to be a fantastic-sounding fuzz: it does the synth/gated/Brassmaster sound better than the Broughton Maestro or Hiero BEAD, but it also is just a garnly and ripping fuzz. Very punchy (aka ideal for a live mix). Nothing like a Muff. Also sounds great after the Subterranea and before an XD. The separate levels for the wet and the dry channels help with whatever sound you want.

I wrote up a Brassmaster comparison here.

I think erithon has a Cloud sound shot somewhere.
You know, I don't actually.* My approach has been to record samples of gear that isn't readily accessible to the TB community. (On occasion I've also recorded specific combinations of pedals that folks request, like suboctave into FrantaBit into XD.) If I recall, there are a number of YouTube demos of the Oxide so I never* felt the need to make my own recording. For example:

*EDIT: Apparently I did record the Oxide 🤦‍♂️ Looks like it was at the request of a TB member so that explains my temporary memory loss. Thank you for the reminder, @Gorilla Monsoon.

The thing about the Oxide is that there is more variation between individual units than one typically encounters (this is also true of the Subterranea) and, consequently, some sound better than others. They all sound good, but the best examples are sublime. Of the hundreds of dirt pedals I've played, the Oxide is one of five to claim a spot on my board:

I miss the good Oxide. :dead:

I know you do, my friend. Best paint job of any Oxide out there and a sublime-sound example as well. But I did trade you both a Sentinel and a different Oxide so you made out okay :)
There's a very outside possibility I'd trade it back to you for one of your 125B Wizard Fuzzes. Maybe. But probably not. I'd have to think about that.

I don’t fire up the Oxide I have now ‘cause it disappoints me every time. Glad you’re using the good one, though. Sentinel also isn’t getting any use… To be fair, the good Oxide would probably sit as well what with the Doc Lloyd Face Ripper holding down gated fuzz duty. I still highly recommend if you happen across one.

The Wizard Fuzz 125b I was willing to part with was traded for a Bass Overdriver. Extremely happy with that trade. Feeding that into a Wizard Fuzz 125b is now my favorite Dunwich dirt tone by far.

Maybe you should PM me? Because you are right that this doesn't lend itself to public discussion and because you are making a lot of assumptions. For example, you have no idea what I paid for that Nimbus SE, those Doom 2s, etc. I'm happy to have a respectful conversation about pedals and pricing, but I do not appreciate how you've opted to publicly drag me through the mud in a community I've spent years investing in :(
I really wish I wasn’t having one of the wildest weeks I’ve had in a long time at work so that I can adequately address this, but here’s all I’m going to say:

The irony in your statement is that I’m “assuming” you don’t recall publicly attacking me in the 3 Leaf thread a year and a half ago when I was only trying to create optimism during an otherwise negative period for that thread. When I tried to follow up explaining I was only trying to be optimistic, you doubled down on being pretentious and downright disrespectful.

I immediately unsubscribed from that thread (which was the first one I ever subscribed to when I first joined TB). Furthermore, while I also agree that this discussion is better suited in DM’s, you didn’t give me that privilege back then, so why should I do the same?

Just some food for thought.

I'm really sorry to hear this, @Treyheartsweed. I never want someone else to feel disrespected or unwelcome. I believe I have located the two posts to which you refer (here and here): yes, I question two claims you advanced, but disagreement is not disrespect. In fact, my replies:
  • invite you to correct misunderstandings on my part
  • employ smiley-face emojis
  • thank you for providing clarifying details
  • wish you well going forward
  • conclude with an additional thank you for your positive contributions to the thread
I'm at a complete loss for how any of this is "public attacking" you, but clearly you read it that way and have been bitter for the past 15 months :( That really sucks and I am so sorry you have been feeling like this. If there is anything further I can say to help you feel welcome in this thread, the 3 Leaf Audio thread, or TB in general, please DM me and let's continue the conversation.
