I also wanted to say I was amazed at how interactive the controls were. It blew me away
Perhaps this is part of what I was referring to. Good observation.
. I hear ya. I'm feeling like the C4's MIDI functionality gives it a bit of an edge and makes me want to stick with it, that way I can pull up my presets instead of fiddling with knobs at a gig. And I have the Hub + Aftershock so I'm somewhat invested in the ecosystem. But I'm thinking that I could upgrade to a DubT and then experiment with pairing it with the C4 and an expression pedal. Might not match the sound of a XD but it's worth a shot.
I’m trying out a C4 after watching the implementation of it for a while now. Other than that I have no other investment in the ecosystem but I feel ya. The midi thing is badass. That said, in my mind the SubT/DubT-Xeno replacing a C4 would be subjective but the C4 replacing the SubT/DubT-Xeno would be impossible with the former being contingent on of course, your personal tastes, your need or desire for switching etc. and the later, while obviously my opinion, just ain’t gonna happen.
That’s OK with me. I’m just seeing if the C4 can augment the core IE analog synth chain I’m building (need a Polytrope! Would love an Oxide). This may involve midi peripherals if it works out and in that instance I’d get a looper with midi capability. Don’t know yet.
I’m not dissing the C4 or anyone, it’s very early days with it and recent life experiences have shown me to be an idiot. I do feel comfortable saying in regard to the C4, keeping in mind my limited time with it, that the OC2 sounds without caveat/with tweak ability are probably worth the price of admission to some, and in that context it tracks very fast and very low. It should also be known that one shouldn’t expect the octave tracking to carry over to all modes, only the ability to reliably track low. I myself don’t really have consistent use for octave notes below A, at least as a root note but that’s me.
I’m going to give it my best shot, be realistic in my expectations and be open suggestions from its users.
At the very least I plan to experiment with generating wave patterns with the C4 and feeding them thru the Xenograph/analog chain. Kind of a “oscillator with benefits” situation in keeping with the modular approach.
Regardless the IE synth chain pursuit shall continue and whatever happens any pedal/system had better play nice with my IE and I’m not just saying that. You won’t find me tripping to find an FMeron just because it’s IE, I’m not into FM synthesis.
Oh and on the OC2 thing, I recently figured out that on my SubT that favor is not found with the clean octave knob counterclockwise like some (not here) have suggested. There is quite a bit of throw from full CC where not a lot happens (there’s some for me 9-10-very subtle) but you’ve got to start getting into the filter territory to find that robot funk.
