That Dubterranea looks awesome, was a great video showing it off. very usable synth sounds, sounds awesome thru the XD.

I'll have to hear the arcing prisms on bass to see how it sounds esp with the low end - maybe thru a divaricator? I liked hte Polytope more on guitar then bass, maybe the AP is the same way?

Great to see new pedals from one of my fav pedal builders!

Thinking of putting together a second IE 'core' board. Some stuff I like that Taylor hasn't made yet (hint hint) like a great bass centric compressor and such, but other than that.

Y'know, a long time ago I had an idea for a compressor/tremolo kinda thing that would map the input dynamics to wavetables and use those waves to control the output volume, but didn't get too far with it. I think maybe Malekko made something similar a few years back?

I normally try to find a unique angle for pedals that I make, so in the case of things like subtle overdrive and compression, as useful as they are, I don't know that I have anything to bring to the table that hasn't already been done by one of the many existing ODs or comps out there. For now I'll leave that end of things to the folks who do it best. :)

Everything sounds better through the XD. Makes the Future Impact shine.. I'm still rocking a Subterranea too. Its great.. Taylor should make a phaser and call it The Taser. I think I read somewhere that he isn't keen as it's difficult to do circuitry-wise (or something). A Iron Ether phaser would be epic..

The new Arcing Prisms does lots of phaser-like sounds in addition to the more far-out stuff it can do. I have some ideas for a phaser though, controlled by a looping randomness generator based on my Pithoprakta Eurorack module, so that it doesn't just sweep up and down the same way forever. I'm not put off by difficult projects, just don't like to reuse the same old circuits that we've already been hearing for decades. OTOH, there are only so many ways to make a notch filter, so the place for innovation looks to be the modulation source in this case.

Calling it The Taser would be cool, although might attract some unwanted legal attention...!

Phaser + Randomness Generator....

Mmmmmm sounds awesome!

Considered adding a Envelope controller option? Being able to control depth, speed, or phaser sweep with playing dynamics would be sweet!

I love the Pigtronix Envelope Phaser which does some of that, but a smaller Iron Ether Phaser with more flexibility would be wicked.

I have to agree big time. I had a MF101 on my board that I was pairing w the future impact...but the size of it was just too much. I tried out a xerograph deluxe and it was a no brainer to swap it out. While the filter of the moog has a certain magic, my main application is expression sweep and the sweep on the xerograph has a better range for what I do. It was great to get that space back for 2 more pedals on my board!!!

when are we going to learn more about the dub-terrenea?

I hear that, and treading the same territory over and over doesn't make much sense...I will say that when I was trying to find a drive that did the least amount of drive...it was hard to find anything that wasn't too much even when pulled way back. I did find a thing or two, but it was definitely hard to find 'subtle' in the drive world. ;)

Here's an oddity for you...I have a VFE Bumble Bee...it has a an optical compressor followed by a somewhat non-linear volume swell. So you can play with the way that the compressor hits then sustains into the swell and then blend the two of them Two pretty over-trod circuits that when put together can do some really different and unique things.

What low-gain drive would you recommend? Just curious.. I ended up with the Aguilar tone hammer of all things.

I ended up adding a TC Spark to my board, and it did just what I wanted...but then for the sake of flexibility ended up moving to a Source Audio Aftershock. I've found one or two patches therein that I could manipulate into being very very low gain/breakup. I'd probably stay with the Spark if I hadn't wanted to also remove my fuzz (Frazz Dazzler) and do a few other driven sounds along with just a little edge.

I'm waiting for SA to update the Aftershock. Right now I find it kind of clunky to use, you have to use the Hub's slots and interface, etc. I assume they'd need to do a ground-up build to make it actually functional like the C4. I was surprised to like the Spark so much...not the mini but full sized one.

i'm not a big fan of hte MF-101 either - i got one when they were discontinued, but the size, the fact its always on, and it doesn't sound as good as the XD. (I like the sound of the Moog Minitaur filter, but its a pain to use).

I'm really psyched about the Dubterrenea - it will replace the FMeron and the TC SubNUp on my board. Between this and the upcoming FEA Dual Band Distortion 2 I'm pretty psyched (2 of my fav pedal makers!). I know that checking the website every day isn't going to make it come faster, but it can't hurt either...

no, pretty different - the FMeron has its own unique sound, but when i think of synth bass the sounds i heard in the video for DT are alot closer. the FMeron def takes alot of use to figure it out and to get usable sounds out of it, but with careful tweaking you can get some, not just the "angry nest of demonic bees coming for your soul" sound.

One thing i've always loved about Taylors pedals is the expression pedal input - it makes the XD, and i think with the DT it is a synth/clean blend (maybe synth/octave?) which is awesome. Either having a dedicated expression pedal (i use the moog ones) or hooking it into a SA reflex is a great way of making bass lines more musical.
