Iron Ether Subterranea

Maybe I just don't get it at all, but from listening to the sound clips on IE's product page I predict there will be a few of these hitting the Classifieds ... or can someone please enlighten me what you would use this pedal for? Maybe it needs to be combined with other effects?

well, i think you have an MXR Bass Octave Deluxe still? damn good octave pedal. but.... whatever you would use that for, this will do that but get in there and romance your tone and whatever pedals you're running through so well they won't stop playing with each other even when they're turned off. you'll have little Tone Babies running around. come back and there'll be a playground setup with them climbing and playing and just being adorable. but don't fall for it. it's a TRAP. the Tone Babies just want inside you. it's how THEY BREED. IT'S HOW THEY-

sorry. just watched through the Aliens Quadrology. it's tainting my abilities to make metaphors.

all i'm saying is, it's a venerable effect for bass, the octaver, run through the mighty awesome and wonderfully weird but in a useful way engine of the Iron Ether Machine... so i would look at using it in the way i'd use any octaver, but with a lot of options thrown in that cover ground most octavers don't. and what gets me all moist for it is that IE pedals are just GOOD. so intuitive and musical.

as for wait times, Taylor's right where he said he'd be. i'm not worried at all. lol. of course, i'd love to have mines now, but it's different ordering from a line that's been out awhile and one that is just being released. i'm ecstatic that none of the delays that understandable crop up with smaller builders have here.

I agree - The demand is high, and Taylor is working as hard as he can to get these first orders out.

Don't let my Sad Panda fool you. I ordered mine slightly custom (different color etch) so I KNOW mine is going to take a little longer. :D

I agree with Behndy about the wait time and the best way to use this pedal as an octave with a ton of extra features. Particularly the ability to make a filter all...wet.

I especially agree with him about the tone babies, though. My XeroD has spawned so many that she's looking a little....tired. I almost feel bad for her with Grandpappy IE (aka Subterranea) on the way.

Nice metaphor. Weird, but nice. :)

Sure, I know what an octaver is, and use one, it's just the tone I'm not getting. But as I said, I'll wait for more samples, maybe I'll see the light.

Looks like I will have mine tomorrow. Was hoping it would arrive today so I could take it to band practice tonight, but such is life.

I'll admit, I'll primarily be using this as a straight OC2 like octaver for the most part. I'm excited about the extra voices for sure, but the convenience of the small enclosure with top mount jacks is also part of the interest.

Well what tone would you like me to use when I type at you?

I kid I kid.

My thing is, IE usually takes something that is out there, makes it sound better, then makes it track better (which is my main issue with synths), then adds a ton of motherfuguing awesome features to yeah, the end result makes it where 99% is whacky and cool and fun and most people don't have Behndy's imagination to use it right in a band setting but that 1% that can be used is still better sounding and tracking than anything else out there and it's usually in a smaller enclosure and cheaper and we get to call him TayTay.

So it's like, some of it is too out there to be used and we like to feature that neq innovative stuff but the IE stuff can all do the tried and true sounds, too. The polytope for example, that thing is insane. So out there I don't know what to do with most of it. But the 1% I do know what to do with the best chorus sound I've ever had. The other stuff is lagniappe.

Bear in mind that the samples on the IE page (other than the ones pairing it with the Xerograph) are isolated voices. Similar to turning the dry off on the MXR BOD and playing each of the octave voices by themselves.

Definitely. I'm starting to get the urge to downsize again so it's nice that the SubT has the slim form factor and top mounted jacks.

That said, I'd have also been cool with a Cygnet sized pedal if there was a separate switch to turn the waveform voices on and off. Normal octaver to synth madness with a stomp would be cool.

Sousie nailed it. that's how i always feel about IE stuff i get. like, this is what this type of pedal usually does, but sounds BETTER. then there's just a metric butt load of stuff extra it can do.

FretsMoreNo - not trying to be a doucher to you. was just saying it's going to be similar to your BOD, just WITH A BILLION TIMES MORE INTENSITY. gawd i love Robot Chicken's take on Lindsay Lohan.

that's a reallllly good point Lesh The Lash. those clips are really good at showing the isolated bits this thinger can do. i'm so looking forward to hearing it blended and wobbled in a more musical context. at home and by y'allllll. glad TayZ put them up though. they make me IMPATIENTLY MOIST.

and i prefer calling him TayDigs. that makes me HAPPY.

Yes, MSU definitely nailed it.

The thing is, I've always viewed my pedalboard as a modular synth. I started messing around with synths before I even played bass, so that's where my mind goes. With that in mind, the Subterranea will be used as an initial oscillator with the filtering and modulation happening later down the chain. So you say "I don't want it to be an oscillator", then you can just use it as the most awesome octaver ever created (OC2), with more features, most likely better tracking, and some gnarly waveform awesomeness for when the situation calls for it.

Therefore, when I get mine I'm going to make some demos that feature it in the role of an initial oscillator for my pedalboard and also as a standalone octaver that has been completely bad-a$$ified by my favorite circuit builder EVER...
