Irreversible climate damage is imminent

Climate Change is real. Been happening since there was a planet. Earth has been a solid ball of ice and a global volcanic inferno. Neither of which is suitable for human habitation. I think it is eqotistical think humans can affect climate. We do see the results of poor stewardship with the litter and polution all over the world. We may kill ourselves and some species if we are not more diligent, but we will not destroy the planet.

The planet doesn't care about us. We are just another life form.

Science suggests carbon emissions might possibly, given the extreme benefit of the doubt, affect climate, due to their ability to trap heat. Now, that's some rather egotistical science, mind you, but science is just like that. I've heard of science that has the egotistical belief that heat can drive up temperatures.

By the by, killing ourselves and some other species could have the effect of destroying the balance between plant and animal life, effectively turning this from a living planet to a dead one. We wouldn't have actually destroyed the rock form that is the planet, but I think that is what might possibly be meant by "destroying the planet."

I specifically said "some species". I don't think we could destroy all life on the planet. Don't forget about those pesky microbes that like near the undersea volcanic vents that are very hot. We certainly can screw it up for ourselves, but again, we are just another life form and Earth could care less.

I specifically addressed "some species." Pesky microbes were never really a consideration.

If you compare our current climate change to the historical ones like the Permian extinction, we're kinda lame. I doubt we'll kill off 90% of life. I disagree that even given the likely survival rate of the majority of species we shouldn't be just a wee but attentive to our role.

I don't disagree at all. I was responding to Mellowinman's comment about a "dead" planet.
