The only thing that's up for debate is the human contribution to global climate change, not climate change itself.
The only thing that's up for debate is the human contribution to global climate change, not climate change itself.
Actually there are four things up for debate.
1) How serious is the change in climate that is occurring and has it leveled off? And have the books been cooked by some in the scientific community, the hockey stick for instance is a complete fraud?
2) Are humans actually contributing to climate change?
3) If so, how much, what percentage?
4) Do humans have the capacity to reverse it?
There has been plenty of other climate changes within history. In the early 1600s we went thru a mini-ice age. In the 1300s we went thru a warming period that in parts of the world were we kept records was warmer than the current period. Humans somehow survived thru those period. I do believe we in the West need to have a smaller Carbon footprint, not because I'm convinced CO2 emissions are changing the climate as much as we simply can't afford all of the stuff we believe we need.
Uh oh. if this is true, there's really no hope left at this point. But, things will continue business as useful of course. Sad really. Even if, by an odd change of heart, American businesses do start to care, Russia and China will still run the Earth into well... the ground.
knumbskull said:"climate change" was invented so a cabal of evil billionnaire scientists who ride around in solid gold limos can kick dirt in the face of poor, innocent manufacturing and oil company CEOs who live in leaky bedsits and just want the best for everyone. FACT.
also, Al Gore is a lizard.
More greenhouse gases are released by the oceans alone than by humans. The climate has changed even before humans became industrialized. Climate change isn't caused by us and our attempts at reversing it is only proof of the fact that we want to play god. Let the world fix itself. The earth knows what's best better than we do. Oh, I give credit to George Carlin for most of that.
