The cheapest Ric I saw was $1699.99 and it was used. Guitar Center doesn't tell you where the item is and that just makes things a lot worse.

$1699 is not bad for used, but you can do better.
Be patient, check the classifieds here, eBay, and Craig's List regularly, hold out. You can probably find a nice one for at least $100.00 less.
Unless you really like the color, it's a great player, you have the cash, and you're itching for a Ric. Then $1699 is not bad and worth the investment over the wait.

Yeah, sure, I so believe you. I'd suggest managing some more production and assisting in some more driving over the next month so you can buy every bit of gear your heart desires. Then set aside another month's salary specifically for a Wal.
I got my brand new 4003 in 2010 for about $ 1600, delivered with original case.
But I shopped carefully and named my price and then negotiated.
Considering that there is nothing that looks OR feels, OR plays, OR SOUNDS like a Ric, then it's definitely worth the money - if you like the way the look, sound, feel or play....
Everyone has been cukoo about mine. Especially me. By the way, the 4003 does a great job improving on and emulating the 4001. The hardware, construction, etc, is better than ever. They still have the most annoying bridge I've ever seen. And the non-hum cancelling pickup wiring is just plain goofy (but easily modded).

If you have a real job and are making the cash, then buy your dream Rick, play it, be happy and enjoy it. And post about your experiences with it, because I'm sure that will be of a lot more interest to us.

Funny thing. I read here about how nothing looks, sounds, plays, smells like a Ric. I've owned one, and played many over the years. Sounds like a run of the mill bass guitar to me. Neck sizes vary, so playability varies also.. but even so, somewhere between Jazz nd Precision in feel, some leaning more J some towards P. Seems to me the looks are what sets them apart more than anything, and that's because of the company's strong action against copies.
I love Fenders, but Rics really are different in quite a lot of ways. People either react to the differences or they don't... Some flip out over them, in good or bad ways, others ignore them.
Thanks for the mention of this place. I just ordered a brand new 4003 Fireglow from them for $1510 shipped.
How do you like the set up their tech did?
I purchased all five of my Ric basses from Wildwood, and while the set-ups varied from adequate to very good, I have 30+ years of set-up experience, so I do all my own set-ups. In fact, some of Wildwood's Rics have been delivered to customers with set-ups I have performed - the last Midnight Blue 4003 sold by them, for example.

Yo Eric. Yes, if you've got the cash, go for it. If I did, or had the resources for trade, I'd sure as heck do it. If you like the traditional "prog" tone, or that extra thumpy "McCartney" tone from the heyday of the Beatles, then it's a must. I wish I could afford one, but *sigh* I don't have anywhere near the resources.
