Is art dead?

the only problem with the world of art today, is the closed minded attitude and belief that art produced now isn't as good, or valid, as art produced 50, 100, 500 years ago.

it's offensive, closed minded, and down right ignorant to say art is dead.

I wanna know when a piece of 3/4" pipe bent slightly to the left and painted red was considered art. Stupid modern/impresionistic art.

I blame it on Andy Warhol. Of course, I also blame Reality TV, a myriade of 3rd world economic problems, and Diet Coke w/ Lemon on Andy Warhol, so take that as you will.

There are a myriad of opinions of what is good art...just like what is good music. The variations are what make life interesting.

It would suck if we only had one kind of music...and so it is with other art forms as well.

Yup.

I don't care for rap music, yet I had to admit it is still music. I also don't care for "modern" art (translate that as "having no talent")...yet it is still art. I framed a "work of art" by my 6 year old daughter and entered it into a "modern" art show. She won best of show, thought everyone thought it was done by a 38 year old woman (or so my entry form stated). Go figure.

Just like there is terrible poetry and great poetry, terrible novels and great novels. The beauty is, if you don't like it, don't look at it, don't listen to it, don't read it, etc.

Others, who do like it...well it's there for them.

i've never seen a red left bent pipe in a gallery.
i've seen a lot of great art. i've seen a lot of crap art.

if you don't try to find it, you'll never see it.

You seem to be missing the point. It's this pipe you see. Normal pipe, probably lead. Bent, slightly, maybe 12, 13 degrees. Bent to the left, actually. Then painted red. Not a racey red, either; a rather boring red. That's it.
