Is ashton that bad

The fretboard has a lot of death notes

Sorry to make light of a crappy situation....but thats just freakin hilarious. Imagine selling a bass to some metalheads who actually just play guitar....

Salesman: Well here we have the Gene Simmons Axe Bass, in the shape of an axe---
Metalheads: We'll take that one!
Salesman: but this one (points to Ashton bass)...plays DEATH notes...
Metalhead: ....I may need a towel

Ashton is a cheap Australian brand also available in New Zealand. They are built in china, vietnam, indonesia etc and in my experience are problematic with the tuners. Bad notes on the neck can be rectified by having a luthier do a setup, which may or may not involve fret-levelling or even removing some frets and reshaping the board. A bridge is easily replaced with a better one, Gotoh, Fender, Allparts etc, as are the tuners.
However, you will have to determine whether or not you want to drop another couple of hundred on it, or flick it and buy a Squier, SX, Ibanez etc.

Ashton guitars = stinky pile of (&^)&%@
the ( now ex)guitarist in my band (of 23 years) bought one when he was low on income, he used to break atleast 2 strings each gig, then the nut fell to pieces, switch broke, and eventually the rest of us band members chipped in and got him a used Ibanese LP.
Ghastly thing that Ashton, the cheapest guitar on the market at the time.

Also not to be confused with the Ashdown brand.

As a metalhead who plays an Ashton AB-2, I would buy a bass that plays death notes.
