Is DI to preamp to headphones safe?

Hello!
So to get started, I should mention that I am trying this because I'm looking for a way to practice quietly when I move to a college dorm next week.
The equipment I'm using is an MXR Bass DI+ and a Golden Age Pre 73.
My bass goes into the input on the MXR and that goes through the XLR direct out into the XLR input on the Pre 73. Also, the MXR is being powered through the phantom power on the Pre 73.
I am worried that it is a problem for it to go in here rather than a mixer or an interface because I thought I would need my interface to use headphones to listen.
Instead, I found that the output on the Pre 73 can send a signal that I can hear well on my headphones.
Someone please tell me whether this setup is safe or not! I am hoping that it is because I really am enjoying it. Thank you!

Oh and I know that my headphones get a signal from the DI box alone but I don't find it to be strong enough. So also, is that okay too?

Not familiar with the Pre 73 bit if it doesn't have a dedicated headphone putput(which i assume it doesn't)then the signal you get on your cans won't be as loud/clear enough.Different level & impedance a involved hence the mismatch.However i can't find a reason why it wouldn't be safe for you or your gear.
General rule of thumb is that you start up your equipment with Level turned down, so start that way & you'll be fine.
