Low frequency in stereo is something of an oxymoron. Low frequency isn't directional, so any stereo effect is lost, unless you are listening with headphones. Additionally, there will be phase cancellation at low frequencies according to how distant the speakers are spaced from each other.
nope, hadn't even really notices many "going stereo" threads either. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention.
I think you'll find most of the guys running stereo rigs for bass are not really all that bassy. Most of the panning of bass throughout the years has been with pretty plucky sounding bass guitars. There are actually mechanical issues that can really mess with the cutting process when hard panning really deep bass for vinyl records.
For live stuff I've seen a few guys send a left and right that carries the upper midrange and treble, and then single mono low-bass signal for the rest of the signal. That can actually work as an effect. Those guys often run effected signals that sound more like baritone guitars when they take advantage of the stereo panning.

Why do quad when you can do Dubly Atmos?
On large stages I do put a cab on each side of the stage. Usually on both sides of the drums. But it’s not stereo. A single amp is putting equal signal to both cabs. So both cabs are doing the same thing. Just a way of evening out the sound on stage. Making a formidable looking wall of speakers. I could use an ABY box and run 2 810 stacks with 2 amps. Which is kinda the definition of a stereo amping. But the end result would be the same.

No, I tried the biamping thing for a short time during the nineties though. I didn’t like that either.
