Is In-n-Out Burger THIS good?

I like In N Out a lot. I wouldnt be standing in line for hours for it but i can understand the excitement somewhat. There is no other restaurant that I know of that can serve me a double double animal style + animal style fries. Were I suddenly able to buy that locally any time I wanted there would definitely be a twinge of "Yes!"
Again though, it's not worth standing in line for hours at a restaurant that will still be there next week and most of the people in line probably think that animal style is something from a kung fu movie.

Meh.. They do have 5 Guys nearby. We have it here too. There is nothing on the 5 Guys burger menu that can compete with an animal style In N Out Burger.

I think that the hidden gem of the west coast are Clarke's Burgers on El Camino in Mountain View

I thought about placing a delivery order over the internet because an $8.95 delivery charge seems pretty fair to get some burgers to me in London, but I don't think they could get here in their quoted 90 minutes, so I hope the delivery guy wouldn't expect a tip!

My opinion exactly.
Adding my two cents: In-N-Out has their own taste, but so does White Castle. It doesn't assure superiority.
I have good and bad memories from In-n-Out. I don't remember it being so good that I would wait more than 15-20 minutes to get one. I was in Phoenix this past December, and drove past the In-n-Out since there was six or seven cars in the drive through line.
It's fast food, so when I want some, I am ready to eat it right then, not after waiting forever.

It is incredibly awesome, but nothing no where, no matter how good, is worth waiting in line like that. My thoughts: there was probably some sort of grand opening promotional special, thus being the reason the line is that long.
How many of you guys would have waited in that line if your favorite bass player was there serving burgers and signing your receipt?

One of these just opened near my work. The only guy here who's opinion I'd trust went there and told me it sucked, and sucked bad. He said In-N-Out, anyday.

Then you apparently need taste bud replacement surgery, stat- in & out is OK/pretty good depending on how hungry one is, but *best*? No, not really. I won't even concede that to *opinion*. They're just not that great, dad.
You have to keep in mind class and league. You cant compare a fast food burger to anything you'd find in a fancy sit down restaurant, or something you'd grill up at home. In the legaue that is the fast food burger, Id agree In-N-Out is the best.
If the 'secret menu' hadnt entered into pop culture i wonder if anyone in Texas would even know what 'animal style' is?

- Full disclosure, I'm a certified Fender technician working in a music store that carries Fender, Yamaha, and Ibanez products among others.
Blech. They're better than most fast food, but that's kind of like saying, "that band sounds better than fingernails on a chalkboard." It's just not much of a benchmark. I never got California's obsession with the place, and they have the same lines at the drive-thru here in Yuma. I suppose if somebody'd never eaten a burger outside of Jack-in-the-Box they'd taste like burgery ambrosia.

Speaking as a shameless Texas homer...... Whataburger is right there with in & out.
I've been eating In-N-Out burgers for 30+ years. Are they damn good? YES!! Are they the best ever? Nope. There are local fast-food places that do a better burger. I appreciate that their fries are hand-cut on site, but (as others have mentioned) unless you eath them while they're piping hot, they suck. Their shakes are awesome!
