Is In-n-Out Burger THIS good?

I was in San Diego a couple of years ago and tried In-N-Out because I had heard the hype. It was pretty good. The next day I went to Hodad's and forgot I had ever eaten a burger before.

As far as fast food burgers, there's a chain here in the midwest called Culver, and it is far and away better than In-N-Out burger. Better in every way, and they have this side item called cheese curds that are brain exploding good!!

Culver's fries their burgers in butter. I'm sure it can't get much better than that.

A "Sonic" opened near my house, and it was the same deal... a line of cars stretching several blocks, police directing traffic, etc.

Sonic was and is a staple of every Texas town since I was a kid but the burgers are nothing special. The cherry limeades are pretty good. The toaster isn't bad which is a burger patty between two pieces of Texas toast with cheese, an onion ring and BBQ sauce. I usually get that or a corn dog.

OK. Well I have been there twice without satisfaction. The first time I tried the regular cheeseburger. But the single patty wasn't enough for all the overpowering special sauce. So I figured I would try the double next.

I did that today. Several years after first visit. Ordered the double cheeseburger. And it was good BUT the meat and cheese overpowered the sauce so much that I could barely taste the sauce.

What did I do wrong? Maybe I should just stick with Whataburger.

I would rather get a Big Mac. It's got a better overall ratio of ingredients including their own secret sauce. Plus the McDonald's fries are 10000 times better.

Mcdouble for me, I've been told it was the best calorie per dollar in the menu and my order since has been two or three of them, and either a poutine or large fry. Sometimes I'll grab a 20 pack of McNuggets too.

Re: the thread topic, I remember when a Popeye's opened in my hometown. I do like the chicken but the place was standing room only for days, traffic hanging out of the lot etc... just like I'd often see on my bike rides to school at Tim's. Honestly I think it's just the novelty of a new thing. But back on the traffic, it's part of why I hate drive through services.

It's pretty alright as far as poutine goes - better than most fast food iterations, but it's got two things going for it for me right now:

1 - Kingston doesn't have great poutine. Lots of good food, but oddly not great poutine.
2 - McDonald's is easily the closest thing to me and is the only thing now open all night on this side of town. Kinda the only post gig option.
