Is it ever acceptable to wear shorts at a gig?

Not for nothing, but Six String Eddie and Blue-Eyed Blondie suck.
NH band. They just screwed me out of payment for two gigs.

Have worked at HD and Japanese bike shops, so familiar with the ABATE group. Pretty cool people so doubt they'll be clutching their pearls seeing a band member in shorts. I'd go long, shorts; if that makes sense.
John Deacon used to wear a kilt for some gigs. Shorts are fine
Guess it depends on the weather. Shorts for hot outdoor gigs during the day. Quite comfortable.

I think it’s ok!! But the only time I wore shorts was documented on this tour/DVD (Mic-o-Holic A.I.)

I play in an instrumental surf band and anything other than shorts and Hawaiian shirts, at outside summer gigs, would be nothing short of sacrilegious. Besides, all members of this group are in our sixth and seventh decades on this planet and have earned the right to dress however we want … so there!

If you are Angus Young, or the drummer who remains behind the set it is always okay to wear shorts. lol
I've never heard of this. Where I'm from you can wear pretty much anything... Playing naked might be too much, but, say, a tasteful pair of underwear would do just fine. The only exception are formal occasions or when a dress code is implied.
So here's a problem I don't have.
One, because I never gig.
Two, because my mother forbade me from wearing shorts in my youth, and that just kind of stuck with me. 43 and haven't worn a pair of shorts in -- decades?

Goodness me. You can wear a dress and call yourself Cynthia but you can’t wear shorts!!!! Just don’t wear tight short short unless you got the body to match. Don’t wear sandals and socks.
If you wear shorts, you must also wear black, crew length socks, and brand new, white New Balance shoes.
I live in Australia - I own 2 pairs of long trousers - and one of them is for wearing in the workshop!
Once in Darwin, I decided to wear long trousers and a linen shirt. Standing in the supermarket the checkout person asked if I as having a nice visit. “I live here “ I said, she asked the woman behind me if I was wearing shoes, and yes I was. They Just laughed at me. Everyone in the queue laughed at me.
In cities like that putting on flip flops is considered “dressing up”, as so many don’t actually wear any shoes.
